How to add downloaded maps to Nexuiz 2 client?

Postby Cinquero » Wed Jul 19, 2006 11:15 pm

How do I create a game with non-standard maps, ie. those downloaded during network play?

You will find the downloaded maps in Nexuiz/data/dlcache. If you want to use them you will have to move them to Nexuiz/data.
Thats for security reasons. So in case there is a malicious download it can not do harm in case you start a server.
Thats also mentioned in Nexuiz/Docs/mapdownload.txt :)

Cool. Thx!

Maybe one should add an "import from dl cache" menu to nexuiz.

That's a nice idea, but for security reasons the menu code can't copy/move/write files ;)
So it's easier and safer when ppl move the pk3s manually. However this question should be added to the FAQ...

Still...

is anyone here who knows how to write batch files? One could supply a bat and a sh file that moves the files from the dlcache to the data directory, but asks for each file. I know how to do this as sh script, but as bat file... no idea.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

it can be done.. I'll dig up my old bats some day and have a look at it.. I remember you could make menus in bat so it should be possible to add this kind of functionality as well.

How about (as a start) to just check for files in data/dlcache in the menus quit window and if so tell the user to take a look at it.. Hmm the message should be generic enough for win/lin/mac..

Ok, I know this is a bump, but it's better then starting a whole new topic on the same thing:

Why don't I have a dlcache?!?!? Furthermore, I don't seem to have any maps stored anywhere searchable.

I've tried everything to get this, and other players told me I'm missing a good deal of the files that should come with the game.

I have re-downloaded it, twice. in my data folder there's a data20070123.pk3 and a common-spog.pk3, should I be able to open those in some way?

Btw, I'm using a macbook.

Die (that's his player name) skyped with me and showed me a picture of his nex file, and he had way more things in his data.

Please help, anything you can think of is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

On linux/mac os & other *nix like systems, the dlcache folder is created in ~/.nexuiz/data (i don't have a mac, so i have no idea how you can access that folder, but i guess if there's something like "go to/open location" in your filemanager you can just enter "~/.nexuiz")

PK3 files are just renamed zip files, but unless for mapping/modding/etc. there's no need to open them...

Hi iSuck.. you obviosly DID download maps already as most of the CTF maps are NOT Nexuiz maps but fan made custom maps that you have to download in order to play on them (greatwall, facing worlds, reservoir and many others..) and i played against you on a lot of those maps :)

On Mac and linux does files are stored in ~/.nexuiz/data/dlcache but as i do not use a mac i can't really tell you how to find that. http://forums.alientrap.local/viewtopic.php?p=16996#16996 Here was a discussion about some other stuff and has screenshots on how to find this on mac, maybe its of help for you.

Hmm i was too slow but i got that fancy link :P
