no mouse + brightness adjusts wrong monitor

Postby hkBst » Thu Sep 28, 2006 5:09 pm

When Nexuiz starts I have no mouse pointer. A lot can be done (in the menus) with keyboard alone, but I couldn't join a server.
Also I notice while adjusting the brightness that it adjusted the brightness of the wrong monitor in my xinerama setup. Nexuiz wants to be on the secondary screen.
Here is some output from konsole:

I can't even start a game when using xinerama and the current nvidia driver. Or better it hangs until i switch to text console and back.. So for now i do not use xinerama.
Which monitor is your primary monitor? I also had problems with the nvidia drivers when using the right monitor as the primary monitor. But then again EVERY game or fullscreen application had that problem. I switched my monitors because of this but i guess i'll have to wait for the next drivers to maybe be able to use xinerame :)

NVIDIA have recently released a 96.xx Linux driver as beta. It does give some new features and might be worth trying.

esteel, my right monitor is the primay one, and I'm using the 1.0.8774 nvidia-drivers. I don't use many full screen apps, but kde is working fine, apart from a few glitches with the panel now and then.

ed, thanks for the tip, but I think I'll wait a while before trying newer drivers. Besides I don't think the nvidia drivers are causing my mouse problems.

Here is a (older) version of my xorg.conf maybe you want to compare it with your own.
http://nopaste.debianforum.de/3026

As you said your right monitor is your primary monitor, can you try to change this in your config? I have had the same problems when the primary monitor was on the right! Maybe i was not clear enough about this in my last post. As you can see in the link i also had the primary monitor on the right and it did not work with xinerama and fullscreen apps. So i changed it it RightOf and also turned my monitors around.
(But now the newer driver is giving me other problems :) )

No that error is 'normal' and will no longer show with the next patch.. it just means the engine can't find some graphics that could be used as crosshairs. Its definitly not the problem!

Please try and see if
Code: Select all
        Screen          "LeftScreen"    RightOf "RightScreen"
does help. As i said a few times now "LeftOf" did give problems and RightOf did help!! The other solution was to NOT use xinerama.

Afaik these are normal error messages happening to everyone, as you can choose only 6 different crosshair styles by default. Nexuiz cant load more than the 6 logically, unless you haven't built in some more custom crosshairs.

I have to say, the more I read stuff about troubleshooting at Linux powered rigs, the more curious I get with this OS. I already built myself a Knoppix bootable CD and instantly had problems with teh mouse yesterday. Using Windows (since XP) is really boring in comparison to that. Looking forward to installing ATI drivers an stuff. Excited I am :)
Back to the roots, a cheers to Linux!! YEAH!!!11

esteel: I changed LeftOf to RightOf and it worked. I got a mouse. How crazy is that! Also Nexuiz was on the primary screen this time. I guess it Just goes to the left part of the combined screen real estate.

Now that we know this workaround, it should be easier to fix this issue. What can I do?
