network gameplay wtf

Postby spiderworm » Tue Oct 03, 2006 6:55 pm

Hello,

Nexuiz runs beautifully on my computer when I'm doing single player games. No drops in frame rates, no problems whatsoever. However, whenever I join a game over the net, the framerate and responsiveness drop significantly. It seems to me that the developers have written nexuiz in a way that causes any client-server lag to affect the client's performance. Any ideas on this? I just want to understand. It's impossible to avoid some lag when playing over the internet, everybody has it, and I'm guessing that everybody is affected by this problem. Many of the other online FPS games I play online deal with a reasonable amount of lag beautifully. Thoughts?

Well, I never noticed that Nexuiz has signifcantly more problems with lag than other games do. I know quite a bunch of players for quite a long time now, there's nobody who's been suffering lag problems in general. If you take a little time to read the bug/support topic, you wont find too many threads with a lag issue. Some poor ones couldn't be helped by living in the middle East or Iceland where no decent server connections are available however. I really dont think it's the game engine to be blamed if you have lag problems.

Maybe it would be better if you'd give some informations about your individual specs first.
So far my thoughts.

May I ask where your home is? And did you gain reasonable pings to the servers you tried to play on? Which ones did you try?

MY first thought would be also the ping, but somehow I believ it's becouse the more massive load on your pc made by the very unoptimized player models on a server. As you play offline, you proly add fewer bots then you face more ppl online --> more players, more models, more FPS drain.

Nexuiz realy needs it's player models to be optimized :(
