thx esteel no soft links that i could find so it sould work as you say i'll give it a try and post the results and if it doesn't i'll just d/l the full pkg then or build it

well dicided to D/L the whole thing 2.1 that is and am runnig it all in userland 
much easier that way works great much smmother and the sound track is way better 
may try online when i know the maps a bit better.

The soundtrack is better? Its the same But maybe the improvments in 2.1 help with sound problems..
Yes the zip file is very convenient and can be used on all three systems (mac, lin, win).
Hope to see you soon online.. just had to play against three others in CTF that was not very nice
