Lag, how do I get rid of it?

Postby ReconUnit 415 » Sun Nov 05, 2006 9:45 pm

My connection is the best and nearly T1 so I know it is not that so I must be the game and my computer. I have a celeron dual (2.93 Ghz 8)) processor that is better than a pentium 4 and a 64 mb graphics card which is not too good, but enough to run the game. I try lowering details but I don't know which ones really matter. It might because Im using linux right now.

I know it takes a fast computer to run the game so don't tell me that because my computer is better than a lot of what I've seen.

"lag" can be experienced due to network connectivity issues (low ping) or PC performance issues (low framerate, overburdened computer)

First thing I'd check is your framerate. If you're getting 30-60 frames per second in games then that's good. If you're getting 30-60fps but sometimes it drops suddenly it may be that you have tasks (antivirus, etc) that are eating up your cpu time occasionally, causing the game to be unreliable in combat.

Also check what your ping is to the servers you are connecting to. Even a T1 can have bad ping to distant servers. Try to keep your ping under 150, and ideally under 100 to the servers you play on.

Well when running linux one also has to ask if you are really sure that you have 3d accelerated drivers installed.. Please see if glxinfo | grep -i direct does say direct rendering: Yes. However 10fps seems to be more then you should get without 3d acceleration but its on the other hand you should get more then 10fps with 3d accel. so its better to make sure.

You can set nexuiz to the lowest settings by opening the console (shift-escape) and entering:
exec low.cfg
vid_restart

Or you can append the command line option +exec low.cfg when starting Nexuiz..
