Guess I'll soon become a Linuxer :)

Iyo o/!

And here comes the final push. Now that Windows Vista is out, I bet Microsoft will stop everything that has to do with XP (they already called back all unsold copies when they released Vista). And everyone are now more or less focusing on Vista, mainly cause if they don't they won't last long on the market. So it will either be, "Get Vista or get lost" more or less. And I definitely am NOT gonna get that, unless I plan on just checking it out without using it to anything. I'm not gonna use and aps or play games with that. So I suppose I have no other choice than to go full time with Linux. I will be forced to learn everything about it sooner or later I guess.
Dell for instance don't sell XP computers anymore only Vista, they don't care if the software or the hardware works on it. They also recommend 2GB Ram for Vista and yet they sell computers with 512MB (they want to leach money out of poor customers).

This is not Microsoft bashing nor a senseless rant, this is a paper written by a respectable IT Security professional who took to time to research and collaborate the truths behind these pains. Please go into this with an open mind and return well educated about what is happening.

So with this.. it's Hello Linux and goodbye Windows.
What are you people planning on doing?

Good idea. Vista sucks, end of story. I use win xp, but only rarely, and not connected to the internet (save a couple open ports for nexuiz and some other games). Mostly Mac OS for me though— I just like the low profile it takes, and it's stability/ security. But thats just me 8)

If XP simply dies, although I cant imagine it will, considering many people still run win 2k, ill just ditch Microshaft altogether.

(Edit: this post is officially a Microsoft-bashing senseless rant)

I'll stick to Win XP for some more months until I'll upgrade my PC (regardless of Vista, mine is just old, and the moment has come where I usually update my machine, that is when the new CPUs are >2x faster than my current one, which is the case). When I upgraded my PC I'll check if all important programs do run WELL on Vista, if even one does not I'll stick to XP

Microsoft has garantueed the support (bugfixes. ... "service packs" :D) until 2011 iirc, so no need to worry.

Interesting post - it reminds me of how I felt when they announced the end-of-life for Win98. When I moved over to linux, it was actually fairly straightforward - a little bit of a learning curve initially, but overall a little bit easier than Windows. Every time I shut down my work lappy (XP), it feels like such a relief! Basically the difference is freedom and control, with Windows, it runs your computer, but with linux, your computer runs it!

If you want to know how unimpressed with Vista I am, I submitted a couple of bugs during testing, and got one of the free licenses (all credit to MS for taking care of its testers). Not only have I not bothered to install, I neither know nor care if the offer is time-limited.
