Psych Desktop (alpha) now public

Postby Psychcf » Sun Feb 25, 2007 3:30 am

I've been working on Psych Desktop for a while now. It's my way of "learning ajax" without "learning ajax". It's finally public. Need to actually work on alot more, but it dynamically fetches apps from a database and executes them, what can I say.

All I can say is, please test it. The one thing I do know about that doesn't work is that you can't have more then one of the same app running at once. Working on that still...

Try it out, your head a splode. http://desktop.psychdesigns.net/

yes, I did this all by myself because I'm just so damn antisocial like that

so, what do you think so far?

Nice work. For me web browser OS are the future.
3 little things :
I have some graphic problems with FF mac. Some text seems to be superposed.
I see that you use dojo, is it the best library to do that ?
I see with firebug that you periodicly lunch a checkevent function, is it needed ? does it take muxh ressources ?

In my companie we actually work on groupware based on EyeOS. For is the most developed OS browser based (is opensource).

Yeah, we know about eyeOS.

With the text problem, that's fixed in trunk. We are using dojo, and yes it's the best library for what we do (since it has a great widget engine).
It makes a check event call every 1500 ms, which for the most part does not use too many resources. What it does is it checks for new events in the crosstalk framework, which can be used to write an instant messaging client.

I've taken a step back from online desktops or "Web OS" since my internet got crappy. The trend goes toward wireless devices anyway, where the major problems are packet loss and connection safety, so online services should focus on fast traffic-efficient applications and encryption. Nobody likes lag.

Other than that, i'm glad the Psych Desktop is progressing. :)
