I was told to get me into an irc channel, and so I downloaded mIRC yesterday after Years.

This client sucks and I want You to give me advice what to use if I want a less confusing solution.

I'm not interested in thousands of f*in gimmicks I don't need and I don't wanna pay $20, I just wanna communicate w my nex dudes.

When the trial ends you can use mirc as long as you want, only you have to wait 2 seconds till the continue button is enbaled.

Btw google tells you how to "buy" it

Yes, mirc sucks bigtime
It is famous for it's security holes and not RFC conform.

My advice: use xchat (you can get a free windows build on http://www.silverex.org), imho the best gui irc client.
There is also a windoze version of kvirc(screenshot))

I use an anicent client called XiRCON, not been in development for several years, but does what need to be done, and its very, very simple. Has some problems sending files out if you are NATed thuogh. This is the simplest IRC client I've ever tried.

Pirch used to be good, but IMO it sucks now.

People tell good things about HydraIRC, but it seem bloated to me, not tried it a lot though.

i don tlike mIRC.

Thechnically, what makes XiRCON brilliant is that it has a very versatile scripting system. It uses full featured TCL as its internat sctipting language.

TCL? *urks*
xchat has TCL support, too iirc, but at least it also has perl script support :)
And my client (weechat) supports perl, python, ruby, lua and native C libs as plugins :D

Better TCL than mIRCscript? :D And this is a windows client... and its less than 1MB IIRC :)

Mirc hasnt really changed over the years . If you dont like Mirc then use another client . It like a lot of the older shareware programs are popular but have a low number of people actually paying to use it .

Their are freeware and opensource irc clients avail and you can use Mirc beyond 30 days in shareware mode.

Here is some commands to get you chatting

/nick randomnewbiesgoeshere
/server irc.ircname.domain
/join #channelname
Hi . Nexuiz is so cool , W00t ....
