Good keyboard?

Postby esteel » Tue Mar 21, 2006 9:16 pm

I'm searching for a new keyboard.. are there any good ones to recommend?
I noticed many keyboards have problems when pressing several keys at once. Ok, granted i have an rather unusual key-setup with ujhk for movement and the weapons around them VS wsad that many people use. For example i can't run forward, strafe left and switch to the nexgun (u,h,i in my case) on about 4 keyboards i tried. I really hope to find a keyboard that works without those problems.
I now tried a Logitech EX110 thats actually quite nice to type and has a nice compact key layout but has the same problems. If i use the PS/2 connector instead of USB i get a few more of those not working combinations.
That keyboard actually convinced me that wireless is ok now for gaming. Quite sometime back i tried such a keyboard at a friend and it was horrible :). But that one works really great so wireless is ok but with those key problems i'll have to give it back :)
So anything good to buy?

Keytronics KT2001 if you can find one. They have to be specially imported from the 1990's.

I am on my second Keytronics now, the first lasted 9 years of heavy use. It still works generally but could do with a thorough clean to get it working again.

My Dad has a Logitech and that's nothing compared to one of these Keytronics.

I use only Keytronic KT2001s I have like 20 of them :) Luckily, these has become some kind of "standard" in norway, so they are easy to get hold of.

Don't buy from stores that specialize in computers. I got this awsome Logitech DeLuxe Cordless Desktop (with mouse) for $26 US at Target :)

I think that having used both, the Keytronics is way better than any of the Logitechs.

With a keyboard, do you really need a row of fiddly buttons that might work once you've installed some really pestilent driver software? Not really. With the Logitech it is best to not install the driver as you lose the F-keys by default. Very silly.

I would also suggest not going for a black keyboard. It may look cool on a website but in the dark you just won't be able to type at all. Beige is the best colour for a keyboard as it is not overly bright yet you can still see the keys very well as the shadows fall in between.

Keytronics KT2001, in beige, PS/2.

My crappy emachine actually came with a half decent keyboard. Kinda surprised me.

I actually find a black keyboard easier to use in the dark. The white letters on black keys are extremely legible since the monitor seems to almost light them up.

Or learn how to type withhout looking at the keyboard XD. But still, The color is not really important, but the really good KBs usually only come in computer-grey. I would go for the one matching the rest of my desk though, if I had to choose.

The real good Keytroncis keyboards, the 2001s doesnt seem to be in production any more though :(

Hehe, I've also still got a Keytronic KT2001 (lucky me!)

But one thing I'd really like to try is this one here:

http://www.raptor-gaming.com/raptor/specs/spec_k1_dt.pdf

It's about a 100 € (Computeruniverse.net)

Would be also kwite patriotic, as it's "powered by Cherry"

gtz :D

PS: Keytronic is dead

the most important part of a keyboard is its strength:
