Those who study Japanese

Postby Dokujisan » Tue Jul 03, 2007 5:18 pm

I know that some people on here study Japanese. I think I want to get back to studying Japanese again.

Do you happen to have any websites that you regularly visit to study Japanese language or culture (or both)? Or to just socialize? Or to follow Japanese culture and news?

Thanks

In terms of learning conversational Japanese, an amazing program to look into is Rosetta Stone. Probably not great for writing though (if at all). If costs quite a bit (in the hundreds of dollars), although it can easily be found on any bittorrent tracker.

Yes Rosetta Stone can be good. I for that matter am not a fan of that program, I have much better stuff than that.
First of, I want to say that my site now has been updated recently with Japanese stuff, I write the lessons myself and soon I hope I get time to do more. My site is: www.origionstudios.com (also in my signature I think).

I also of course now many sites, some pay sites with great stuff, and some free with still good, but not (as) great. You might wanna check out:

Free:
www.thejapanesepage.com
www.japanese-online.com
(thejapanesepage.com also have it's own store, www.thejapanesestore.com, which is really amazing. They love Japan and take their business seriously they are very nice people too. I ordered my Kimono from them, great service).

Paysites:
www.yesjapan.com
www.japonin.com
(Both really great)

Some programs that has helped me and are good:
Power Japanese - Very old but very good IMO
Instant Immersion Japanese - My favorite
LanguageNow V8
Rosetta Stone

There are also videos:
Japanese Basic I and II
NHK Japanese Lessons

And book/PDFs if you want em om the computer:
Japanese for Busy People - Hence down my favorite, pretty much thought me everything I know, except writing which I learned from the "old" program.
Pimsleur's Comprehensive Japanese

Well, hope this is enough for now. :) Good luck.

I and two of my friends also learn Japanese together, but I know the most, both of them are pretty much newbies only know a few words. So I'm the teacher and learn myself on my own time to make sure I am ahead of those two :)

Usually, this is when people say: "Thank you ai for your valuable time and resources you have given me. I appreciate it. Now I don't have to waste my own time looking up this stuff, which I actually should as I am the one who want this crap."

I appreciate your help, but I will still be spending time looking this stuff up ;-)

I just wanted to be steered toward some good sites in case I overlooked some.

I'll let you know if I find any really good ones.
