Unrealistic

No, I'm not going to ask about UT3.
I just watched a video of Quake 3, and I saw a few weapons that we should have, but that's not the important part, what I wanted to know was: Do they even make good unrealistic FPSs anymore? Nexuiz is the latest one I can find, they all (even the floaty UT series) have become steadily more realistic. I miss the games where you would fly back ten feet every time you got hit by a machine gun. I like the style in TF2, but I think the video-game market is losing itself, I mean, True-combat: elite is one of the most recent games I tried, and I hated it. Everything was TOO realisic. It's not fun to crouch behind blocks for five minutes, or huddle down and tiptoe up behind a motionless enemy so you can hit them once with a piston to kill them. That's stupid, where's the excitement? So I ask you now, what games are there that aren't trying to become more down-to-earth besides nex?

I've never seen UT as realistic. Xloc? Double-jumps, wall-dodging, and the host of built-in mutators - vampiric regeneration, low-grav, double-damage, etc? None of those bespeak realism. And though the 03/04 and now "3" don't really compare game-wise to the original (my favorite), I don't think they are realistic - and I think it's their particular flavors/levels of unrealism that make them more fun than the ultra-real tactical shooters. BTW, when UT 3 hits stores, I probably won't be on Nexuiz for a month or so - the Soft Cuddly Bunnies have some pub-raiding to do. :D

The idea behind UT3 was to return to the original UT99 style, with high gravity and no dodge-jumping. Yes, really. It's still awsome though, I think it will be easier to hit a target that only moves along the horizontal plane.
I still like UT, it's my favorite commercial game, since it's so adaptable to all kinds of maps, UT2k4 is still pretty good, except it doesn't have some of the advanced features like normal-mapping.

 That, I was not aware of. I have not been keeping up on the dev end of the game at all. Wow, I guess I won't be buying it immediately. They can bite my shiny metal butt. :P Though I should say, I was expecting they'd be moving back to the faster default movement speed. And come to dwell on it, I never did play much on the standard UT99 servers, just the modded-to-hell low-grav/what-have-you ones.

Dodge-jumping was a staple of Unreal and Unreal Tournament.

UT3 still has dodging.

The movement appears to be a little faster than ut2k4.

So far tho, I'm pretty disappointed with UT3, mostly in it's overall look. Everything feels very bland, brassy, and has no where near the richness that UT2k4 had.

But it is just a demo, and hopefully they have taken the feedback(especially on the awful menu system) to improve the final product.

Despite the graphic issues, the game is fun as hell to play. The darkwalkers alone are one of the most awesome things ever :)

I meant dodge-jumping, where you get an insanely fast forward flying-leap, really unfair and too fast to make sense.

The beta demo was VERY minimized, all the graphics were condensed from a 2gb application to a 700mb file. I did hear the menus were bad, but it's a demo, and it's beta, so it will get better. What do you mean "bland"? I understand brassy, they're playing with the new Normal system and gloss, which were both new in UE3.
