I can not suggest ATI, their Windows drivers are low quality (see screenshot), and they don't put much effort into their Linux drivers.
Image taken under Windows during a CTF match after I unminimized Nexuiz. Nexuiz was not minimized for more than 15 seconds. The ATI driver seems to have forgotten the textures for the flag and some other stuff in the background, as well as parts of the hud.
I would also suggest to get a nvidia card. They seem to produce the better cards (and drivers!!!) currently. Just make sure to get agp/pci-e depending on what your motherboard supports. But it seems good agp cards can be hard to get.

I agree, don't get ATI. Nvidia cards have much better drivers. For playing Nexuiz at full settings, I'd suggest getting at least an Nvidia 6600, although for better performance you should probably get a 6800 or 7800. Remember to buy a card that fits your motherboard (AGP/PCI-Express).
Also, don't get the 7300. It's actually slower than the 6600.
Yep, it's AGP. I would suggest a graphic card somewhat like these two :
256MB, Radeon X1600 Pro, DDR2, DVI, TV-Out
256MB, GeForce 6600 GT, DDR3, DVI, TV-Out
