cpu temp

Postby Joman » Wed Jan 02, 2008 5:13 pm

What temp? is the normal for this game. My idle temp is 45c-50c, I have geforce go 7400 - 2gigs ram - mobile intel core duo T7200 2.0 on my vaio vgnsz430 laptop (march 2007)and the temp is getting up to 85c . core temp app. says that the tjunction is 100c should i worry about this? Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

the slowdown threshold is usually set around 50-100 degrees C depending on the computer, so it will cause performance issues. 85 degrees C is very high, you may want to attempt to re-apply the thermal paste, or take it to a local repair store if you don't know what you're doing.

A decent cooling setup should run around 35-45 degrees C. Higher end cooling setups will run at 20-30 degrees C.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_paste

if you're idling at 50, that should be fine. I'm not quite sure why it's getting so hot though. Nexuiz is not very cpu intensive. Maybe you need a bios update or something like that. Most laptops don't have the thermal paste applied correctly, but I would still only try that as a last resort.

My laptop idles around 30-35 degrees C and gets up to 60 when playing Nexuiz.

85 is quite hot, as psych said. It seems you have a laptop, so the first thing I'd recommend would be to elevate the laptop somehow, to try to reduce heat, The long term solutions are to clean out any dust that may be blocking your fan, and to apply new thermal paste, or having someone apply it for you.

Also, I think there was a problem where Nexuiz worked better if it were forced to run on one core on multiple-core cpus, but your main problem seems to be that the laptop is running hot overall.

I have a first generation vaio sz laptop (core duo T2300 cpu) and yes, it also gets that hot (about 80°C when compiling on both cores), but the temperture drops really fast once the cpu becomes idle again, so there doesn't seem to be any problem with the cooling system.

I'd say those temperatures are still ok, since there are hardware defined max. teperatures for tjunction as well as all 3 thermal zones and my laptop never came any closer to any of them than that (it is a rather small laptop after all...).

tjunc is bugged if you use rivatuner 2.06

intel dual core max temp is around 60c dont go higher

video card temps can reach above 100c degrees without harming that atleast with nvidia latest harware

do you use your laptop on your lap ? or on a cloth surface mabye

its need to breath from under I also broke a laptop becasue of high temps it was 3 years old . 2.4gig and ati 3d video card . all those new laptops are getting to hot

tjunc max depends on the exact cpu model and stepping. Some models have it set to 60°C, others have 85°C or 100°C.
I just verified: my laptop has 100°C set as critical temperature (according to /sys/devices/platform/coretemp.{0,1}/temp1_crit).

My laptop is sitting on flat surface all the time and got the processor specs. from http://users.erols.com/chare/elec.htm - I have mobile intel core duo T7200. It only gets hot when I play Games. And only at the back left corner right by the vent, everywhere else is fine. Thanks everyone for the feedback :P

It could be that the app you're using to monitor temperatures is reading it incorrectly. This happens sometimes. Try Speedfan.

My board's bios had a bug where it would readout to negative temperatures, so if that makes no difference I'd try updating the bios.
