Looking for a new keyboard

Postby Psychcf » Thu Jul 24, 2008 3:49 am

Well, my Saitek Eclipse II is getting shot, the 'e' key is problematic and the 'n' key is cracked.

I've been looking at the Razer Tarantula, since I've had good experiences with Razer in the past (except, it's a bit pricey for me), and it looks like a solid keyboard. I also hear good things about logitek, and microsoft, but I'm not quite sure.

What would you guys recommend?

I would consider getting a Cherry Keyboard (but propably not Das Keyboard ;)) . Excellent quality.
Mine was about 14€ but you would not believe that when you see/use it. and you can spend more there too if you want.
It is heavy and sticks good to the desk. The keys are very tight and make a pleasing quiet sound while typing. It realy suprised me.

If the Razer Tarantula is $90, and I think that's expensive, what makes you think I want to buy a keyboard that's $130?

But the Das Keyboard, from what I hear, is really noisy, and has no multimedia keys. That just won't work for me.

Also, I hear that it's so heavy, you can use that thing as a weapon...

Really all I need is something that has good n-key-rollover, and the buttons have to be easy to press (but not too easy, because then I can't rest my fingers on it :) ). I could type around 65wpm my old keyboard, and that was a dome-switch keyboard. I've been thinking about getting a scissor-switch, but those seem kinda flimsy.

I still miss my olde IBM model M (the "clicky" keyboard), it was comfortable to use and it really p*ssed everyone else in the room off at the same time

I'm using a decent Cherry with the mechanical switches at the moment. I prefer mechanical switches to the membrane type.
