How does nexuiz even work on a modem line by the way? if i rrecall correctly with 8 players you hit a bit over 100kilobit traffic...

It was not a question for you dark_link, butyou might have interest in the answers, as I'm not sure its possible to play nexuiz online with a modem. Do you know yourmodem speed?

yeah, 39-45.2 kilobytes per second. What does that have to do with anything?

When you play nexuiz online, I'm not sure that is enough, as there quite a lot of traffic that will be sent between you and the server. If you play locally. it doesnt matter.

But as I said, I'm not sure how much bandwith is needed to play. Someone answer this please. Esteel?

384kbit/sec downstream, 98kbit/sec upstream should be enough, but then constantly (not going up and down all the time) and with a fast response. Quality, not quantity is required. Actually there ain't too much traffic as my network admin in the company examined with 3 nodes in the company and 5 from outside playing. Well, downstream possibly could be less, it's just an estimate by my admin.

I have tested this on a server with 2 players.

The average net usage for the client is:
down: 31k
up: 32.4k

So you should alt least be able to play 2 player matches with a modem. more players would causeyou to lose packets now and then, i gues, so the motion would be a little more jerky as more and more players conencts to the server, but I think you should be able to have some fune nonetheless :)

There is a guy named Dave on this site who said that he would send me a CD of the Nexuiz download, so I should be able to play within a matter of days! See ya there Tchar, Esteel, Dave, and anyone else who were nice enough to post things here to help a person they don't even know! I feel like I have just made a bunch of new friends, but if what I have heard about Nexuiz is true, that it is a game of competition (a one on one fighting game) then my friends may also be classified as my enimies. See you on the battle field!

You are right that nexuiz can be played 1on1, but also 2on2, 4on6 and free for all up to 64 players!

So.. We look forward to seeing you on the servers, and have fun :)

Edit: btw.. there is a new version of nexuiz (version 2.0) coming out in a few days.. so maybe you would like to wait for that before getting the CD sent to you? :)

Indeed, I will wait until Monday so I can supply Dark LInk_Flare with the latest version of Nexuiz. It will be worth the wait.
