The question was not the spelling of any word, but the difference between the US and UK versions of the past tense form of the word 'spell' (spelled/spelt).

Expelliarmus!

The Apostrophe appreciation soceity would write that:
Those people need to stop listening to their CDs and MP3s and start reading books.

By the green groceers apostrophe it would be:
Those people need to stop listening to their CD's and MP3's and start reading book's.

Using an apostrophe for pluralising a word has always been wrong. However, before the 1990s (ie the 1980's) it was OK to use an apostrophe when pluralising numbers, abbreviations and acronyms to show that the s was not part of it.
Those people need to stop listening to their CD's and MP3's and start reading books.

This old correct piece of English has been wiped out by the 'Grammar Nazis' that C.Brutail warns us of.

A further, really, really pointlessly small piece of incorrect English:
The song 'Can I kick it?' by A Tribe called Quest (http://www.lyricsdepot.com/a-tribe-call ... ck-it.html) should be called 'May I kick it?' and then the next line should be 'Yes you may.'

This nn remembers me of a famous song containing the line:
Say nighty-night and kiss me
Guess this one would be too bad for the song-riddle-thread as its just too famous :)
