Are Simpletons in your country flying flags on their cars?

Postby Ed » Tue Jun 06, 2006 11:12 pm

Here in the UK there are lots of people flying England flags on their cars. It's something to do with some association football tournament or something.

In short, they're irritating and waste fuel:

Are idiots in other countries doing this with national flags or is it only here in Britain that we have such morons?

Bandwagon patriotism has been all the rage in the US ever since 9/11. It's not as bad as it used to be, with people putting huge American flag magnets on the side or back of their cars, but you still have a lot of "PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN" bumper stickers or "I support the troops!" magnets. And it's really annoying because most the people you see with them don't actually care about what's going on with the country, they just do it because it's what every other person is doing.

edit: Huh. I read that totally wrong and assumed it said something about people waving their country's flags on the car. I'm dumb. But ranting is fun anyway :)

Haven't seen any of that yet. Well, maybe friday evening I can tell u more, when the opening of the championships happens down here in munich.

But in general the germans are still slightly fed up with carrying national flags, except some ugly, baldy trolls

The Brits must be the most patriotic of them all. The England flags are on the cars, on the people, on their hats, their shirts, their shorts, even their flip-flops. In my street (like every other street, in Reading at least) they show the flag in their windows, flown from the lamp posts outside their houses, from the flagpoles in their gardens, from their TV aerials and from the satellite dishes. Honestly, it's worse than me with the tux flags. When you go into any shop or supermarket every own or major branded product has an england flag and some footie related competition all over it. National television is full of it - commercial channels are nothing but how england are doing in the football and even the BBC have caught the football bug. In other words England is full of balls and feet. Just like a foot fetish site really....

Its quite easy.. norwegian law prohibits the use of the flag as a decoration

Norwegian flag laws are, for some reason, very strict.

British laws are too. You can be fined £5000 for flying a Union Jack on a boat without the Queens permition.
