im thinking with portals

it would be nice to have them in one of these games, but how to go about coding these remains a mystery to me. There is some 14 year old making a game named "Portalized" but hes not sure whether to release it as open source or commercial, and it is some Pete Molyneux kinda stuff. Also, we have no idea when hes gonna release the game at all. I would be willing to code it if someone could figure out how to do so.

Almost everything of it already is in Nexuiz. You can have movable crates, a sort of portal gun, and there is a game mode that supports maps that have to be completed linearily (race).

The only thing missing is rendering the view of the other side of the portal. If you manage to add that - sure, why not.

Just try it out - on the race servers, the maps test00 and test01 are such maps.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

well, actually, those are teleports, a textured plane that upon collision, teleports you to a predefined location, you can't shoot through them, and you can't move freely through/between them. im talking about like the narbacular type of portal

I know about them in Narbacular Drop, but as for gameplay, these are already identical. And you CAN shoot through them - just not SEE through them.

And the location isn't predefined, but comes from your shot of the portal missile.

so there is a portal gun?
another thing, you can't move freely between what ive seen, unless you are talking about something else

Check out svn. The only two things which limit usability is not being able to shoot anywhere and see through.

Or simply join a server with the gamemode RACE. Most maps have the Porto-Gun.

You can also vote for the maps test00, test99 and test01. Test00 is perfect for testing the Portogun as a newbie.
