How do I get a good job?

Postby tundramagi » Sun Feb 01, 2009 5:31 am

I have a 4 year buisness college degree.
I don't want to work exclusivly at radioshack as a minimum wage employee anymore.
What do I do?

Right now I'm just aimlessly taking more classes at the community college... but that's a dead end. I want a good job, I allready have a degree.

You have a degree in business. Try and find something to use it for, another better job or something.

I cant really give advice here I've not finished my degree yet :P

One way to get a job is to be better at something than anyone else and then you'll get headhunted. Both jobs I've had since leaving university have been by being headhunted.

Try using your contacts. You may know someone, who knows someone who runs a small business and is looking for someone like you. Any of your relatives run businesses?

In the current economic climate it may difficult with a business degree. Administrative positions are the ones that get cut first as these operations can generally be subject to improvements in efficiency.

The problem is I don't know anyone with a buisness. All the people I know are teachers or in studying in university themselves.

No matter how hard the economic climate, good people are always needed. In fact, probably more than ever :) Just some ideas:

1. Maybe Radioshack has a better position for a business college graduate? You could find out.

2. Try sending letters to companies you would like to work for as open solicitation. Once the economy picks up again they may remember you :)

3. Anything you could start up for yourself? Something that does not need a huge investment. Even if it is just part time, it's better to have something with a purpose on the side, to get through the hours at a job of the dead-end variety.
Now with new shiny avatar.

I have nexuiz and radiant for that.
Radioshack almost didn't hire me because they didn't think I was "lively" enough for a minimum wage sales position. I got hired because I knew someone.

Louis Theroux likes doing documentaries about people like you. That would get you some TV money. It would also get some publicity so that you may become a world renowned advocate of womens rights.
