Postby mia_tech » Tue Mar 24, 2009 7:14 am

guys, I'm running Nexuiz on vista, and I would like to configure my gamepad to work with the game, although I've looked in the input panel and didn't find any settings for game controller... is possible to configure gamepads to work with nexuiz....

any help appreciated

Game pads currently aren't specifically supported, however, it should be possible to use them with the joystick support.

You may need manual configuring of cvars for it. For this, open up the console (shift-escape), type joy and hit tab. You'll see all settings regarding joystick.

Start by setting joy_enable or joystick to 1. Possibly you'll have to change further settings.

If you succeed, it would be nice if you could post the mark of your gamepad, and the settings with which it works (or, your config.cfg file), so they can be included with future releases.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Morfar did something similar for his joypad already iirc.. so maybe it works if you simply enable joystick support (joy_enable 1 or something similar)
Joystick support was disable by default as hardly anyone uses it but some system act strangly if enabled with a joystick attached..

Gamepads

Maybe a bit late on this one, but I play Nexuiz using a Playstation DualShock.

Assuming that you've got the gamepad connected to and recognised by your PC, then I'd recommend downloading ControlMK, which allows you to map keyboard and mouse commands to the joypad buttons/sticks.

If it's of any use, I'd be happy to send you a copy of the configuration that I use (ControlMK can export profiles, failing that, I could write it up). Of course, if you're not running Windows (I note that it doesn't seem to be a popular OS, round here!), this is all about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

Quick word of caution: playing with a gamepad will never be as quick or accurate as mouselook, so experienced players will probably deal out massive ass kickings (or perhaps that's just me)!

Nexuiz is pre-configured to work with gamepads. I have at least tried:
Logitech (Cordless) RumblePad 2
Sony Playstation 3 Controller

And those works if you just enable "use joystick input" in settings.
But the gamepad needs to be calibrated in your operating system first of course :P

I'll have to try this - spotted "use joystick input" when I first started playing, but assumed it wouldn't work, as Vista doesn't like anything that isn't the Xbox360 controller (or so I read, somewhere).

Wonder if it will make me a better player?

edit: just had a go at this - almost a total success (mapped the controls to the buttons I like, pushing the left stick moves me around), but the right stick has the axis mapped wrong (left is up, right is down, up is left, down is right). I tried swapping the values for jovadvaxisr (default is 2) and joyadvaxisz (default is 4), but this doesn't seem to do anything. I'm probably missing something (the cvar list does point out that configuring more than 2 axis to work correctly is very technical), so any help would be greatly appreciated. I stuck my nose in the config.cfg file, but this makes no mention of joyadvaxis values. :(
