Bypass blocked port for gaming?

Postby AnArKiSt » Sun Jul 19, 2009 12:39 am

A friend of mine was told by her parents that they are going to block the port required by the World of Warcraft game client to communicate with the WoW server thru the router at their home.

WoW uses TCP port 3724, and this cannot be changed.

If there was some way to route the communication between the WoW client and the WoW server thru a port besides 3724, that would be great.

The only solution I can think of currently, is to use tor from http://www.torproject.org/. I don't know if that will work, so I'd like alternative solutions if that one fails.

Her parents were fuming because she didn't go right to eat dinner when called, so they are trying to lay down the block.

We're too badass to put up with this, so we need paths around the block, or smth.

Can anybody here provide us with more info about ways to bypass this block?
My will be done.

Listen to your parents!! WoW is seriously dangerous for any kid, teenager as well as adult. Just stop playing it.

I'm serious about that actually.

Atm you are asking us how you can place your heroin injection when your parents wrapped you in injection-safe foil :)

That's not very helpful...

I play WoW, and I'm addicted too. We need my friend unblocked for PvP and instance DPS...

FOR THE ALLIANCE!

Never mind. She just started being a total asshat to me, so I don't care if her ports get blocked anymore.

I got two words for you: Guild Wars

WoW is nothing but grinding and looting. It seems the only point is to stack yourself higher than everybody else. In Guild Wars there's a lot more strategy and no monthly fee. As for getting around that port, I'd say brute force the router. Most routers use http://192.168.0.1 or a similar URL for their settings, try using a script to brute force the login and get rid of the port block.
I have left this website with the rest of the GPL Nexuiz community. You can find us at Xonotic.org

I lost a good friend of mine because he played WoW constantly. That happened some time ago though, but it was really awful :(
