mobile internet: "surf sticks" and Nexuiz

Postby The mysterious Mr. 4m » Tue Sep 08, 2009 9:11 am

Just recently i discovered the wonders of mobile internet by the use of UMTS modems or "surfsticks", as they seem to be called here in germany. My number one priority and determining factor for acquiring access to the internet is playing Nexuiz, so my question to the community is whether i will be able to play and what conditions i will have to expect when using such a "surf stick". (i was laughed at for using the term "internet stick" in a chat. -_- )

Do you have experience with "surf sticks"?
Were you satisfied with the performance?
Which do you recommend for the use on Linux?

Do some searches on ubuntu and huawei e220, far as I know, it should work out of the box. I wouldnt even dare to start speculating about the lag when playing nexuiz, its probably really bad.

watch out for the Internet provider: it won't help if you have a good... stick... but your provider has a poor signal.

If it were possible to play Nexuiz over mobile broadband I would be playing a lot more than I am now. I have two different sticks and both have really bad pings, but for general web surfing they are quite good. I think both work fine on Linux.
