Split Screen Linux

Postby xcg70 » Fri Mar 05, 2010 11:31 pm

Hello I want to start a project called "The Linux Split Screen Project ".

The goal of the project would be to edit the source code of free Linux games and make them function in a two player split screen modes.

My hope for the project is to start small and convert just a few games with permission to split screen like Alientrap,Nexuiz, Cube but to leave the rest of the code intact.

After the conversion it'd be fun to to put the split screen games into a distribution with TV out like Mythbuntu for example, but people could do that on their own I suppose.

People with two Computer monitors could play side by side, or play with one person on the computer CRT and one person on the Television.

I feel that this idea is different from other game Linux front ends because it would allow two people to play in the same room without having spend money on a ps3 or xbox 360.

Do you know anyone who would be interested in working as a team to edit the open source code of existing Linux GPL games?

Two Linux Games that are already split screen are Torc racing simulator and Battle tanks. I am interested in how they managed to code split screen two player into their games but can't find the creators email addresses.

Thanks for your time :)

DeVsh was interested in something like this but got involved in something else.

As for using nexuiz, it's GPL. You can use it under the terms of the GPL.
