Help with Server setup

Postby Chief250 » Sun Mar 28, 2010 6:48 pm

ALL,
Greetings and sorry to bring you what is probably the stupidest question out there.....I'm trying to get to and edit my server.cfg file. Here is the question..... Where the heck is it?

I have nexuiz dedicated server running on a linux box, Ubuntu Karmic. Installed via synaptic packet manager.

I have done searches to no avail.....how can I make modifications to this server? It operates but I need to find out how to make modifications.

I appreciate any assistance ANYONE can give me here.

Thanks!

It is in the folder called "server".

Copy that file to the "data" folder. Once there, edit it.

Also, for future questions, go here: http://forums.xonotic.org/index.php

I know I asked a stupid question but I suppose a more accurate question would be: where by default does synaptic place the "server" folder which houses the server.cfg file?

Once again I have browsed and searched the file system both from the command line and from the gui interface of the server and have not found the file.

Specs again:
Ubuntu Karmic
Dedicated Nexuiz server (no client)

Thanks for the response!

Also, as a general rule: With ubuntu/debian/other apt/dpkg based systems you can always do:

dpkg -L package_name

to get a list of files that the package installed

Ok got that

which results in a

/usr/share/doc/nexuiz-server/ ......no server.cfg file here.

Is that the location that I should write one?

or should it go in

/usr/share/doc/nexuiz-data

or

/usr/share/doc/nexuiz/data

Sorry to sound so lost here, but I have looked around for some kind of guide to setting this up for several days now with no positive result.

Thanks again...

First... Most linux distors come with an older nexuiz version, so you are in most cases better off with DLin the newest version and use that. As for server cfg file placement, it it always a way to run the server with +serverconfig path/to/server.cfg, especially if you intend to rund several dedicated servers on the same machine.

Personally I have a dedicated user for this on my linux box, and I just unpacked the .zip to a folder in the users home dir and ran it from there. I keep the server configs in the data folder, in my case /home/nexuiz/Nexuiz-2.5.2/data/26000.cfg 26001.cfg etc I start nexuiz from the /home/nexuiz/Nexuz-2.5.2 folder with

./nexuiz-linux-686-dedicated +serverconfig 26000.cfg

(inside a screen, that is)

this might be an old-school way to do it for all that i know, but it works.
