Slow performance with games

Postby phil55au » Tue Jul 25, 2006 12:26 pm

hello,i need help in regards to getting more fps in games for example when i play the game''C&C renegade/everyother game to, ,im only getting 20-35fps on average..first i will start with my specs...

Intel Celeron 2.80Ghz (socket 478) FC-PGA2 , L1 8kb L2 128KB
120GB maxtor 7200rpm(296kb bad sectors)
40GB seagate 7200rpm
DVD drive
CD drive
1024 PC3200 DDR RAM (400mhz)
Nvidia Geforce 6600GT (AGP 8x) all drivers are updated.
Nvidia settings are as follows
antialising:OFF
antistropic:OFF
image settings:HIGH PERFORMANCE
vsync:OFF
my power supply is 200w,im not too sure if thats got anything to do with it.
what i dont see is for all the games i buy the requirements are way beyond my cpu but they show really slow performance.
i have done a fresh install of xp,installed drivers and and the same performance issues..
do not know what to do...
if you can help me in anyway , that would be much appreciated...

Thanks in advanced

My first advise: Update your graphics drivers.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_91.31.html

Edit: Oups, you already updated...never mind.

Can you post a screenshot of your hardware control panel (the list with all hardware listed)?

Oh, and please check the temperatures of your CPU. If it got too hot the CPU will throttle its clock to not overheat.

hmm, are you sure the output of your power supply is only 200W ???
imo its nearly impossible to even start a computer with your hardware config and such low power .... :?

thats *very* weird. recommended power supply for the Nvidia Geforce 6600GT is a 'minimum' of 300W. even though its possible for the celeron to work, i don't believe it might have no impact on your system to run with this low power. on the other hand i believe it wouldn't even start up or at least produce some random shutdowns...
your system seems ok, but just for testing purpose i would loan a better power supply somewhere and try it :D

yes i have updated it to the latest driver version that is compatible with the latest winfox software..in which i emailed a support query to leadtek and thats what they said...and on there site has that version...so i have updated the graphics card....but im do not know if i should be installing the latest drivers for the geforce 6600GT from nvidia because my hardware is not the ''NVIDIA GEFORCE 6600GT'' its the ''winfast A6600GT''
...

please help any way you can thanks.

leadtech just uses the nvidia chip on their graphic card.. so you should be able to install the nvidia drivers. Those are a lot newer and hopefully work better. But i guess its a good idea to keep your older driver handy just in case :P

that is %100 correct that it needs 300w minimum, i find it very wierd that it works...but i see your point...when windows is botting up it just shows a blank screen for a while...then boots to windows...but the when it says welcome on the blue screen it has jaggy edges....but the video card works....all drivers installed...agp 8x...i have a 3.3v agp slot so i do not see what the problem is....the processor on the other hand as i read on issues in relation to this sort of thing said that the celeron isnt very good for games...but its 2800mhz...my mobo stays at 43degrees my cpu stays at 41degrees when im playing games etc,and my cpu usage stays at 85-100 when i play games and 2percent when im doing nothing.i have used a benchmark one time called''pc wizard''most of the benchmarking seemed ok except for the memory bandwidth which said 0MB bandwidth yet my computer uses the ram in apps..and recognises it...but one slot of ram in generic..would that have anything to do with it? its wierd to..that when i do dxdiag and run 3d test i get 999 fps
