That's one way of looking at it and I have considered that.
The problem I see is that because currently AMD is considered the better processor for Linux (better for 64-bit), AMD may try to offer ATi graphics and core logic as being the components to use with it's graphics card. For Linux users that could mean:
good processor = awful graphics and chipset drivers
Whatever, I do hope that ATi's Linux drivers get better but for me (and from specs I've seen, many of your guys machines) I still feel it should be:
AMD processor + nVIDIA chipset + nVIDIA graphics = Linux box
