A question in the wrong forum :D

Hi guys,
you may know the "Cube Engine" ( http://www.cubeengine.com/ ). Ive a question, a friend of mine wanted to make a single player game, the store is like that between half-life 2 and doom 3. Nothing fixed, yet, but I wanted to ask: he would make it out of the cubegameengine. Do you guys think, it would be a good idea, to make out of the cube engine ( a multiplayer game ) a single player game with a "story"? If he would make it, it would be freeware (how the licenze sais). Now, should I tell him "oh, very good idea", or "no, dont start it, wouldnt famous. I know, here in the Nexuiz forums, I cant hope for a answer from the developers in here... you know, because Zymotic ;P, but I hope I'll get some answers... of course, from developers...

Well if he wants to use cube he should use cube2 aka sauerbraten.. http://sauerbraten.org/ its way better then cube.
Then again i have no idea how sauerbraten does work and how one can mod for it so i can't tell how much work it is. But i'm sure quake-engine mods are way better documented and its easier to find stuff for a quake-engine game :)

Yes, he knows Sauerbraten (silly name xD), but he sais, the Cube 1 engine is a bit simpler, he doesnt want much functions, he jsut want the simple shooter enigne. If he would use the quake engine... dont know, I can ask him. He wanted to make it in the first line for Macintosh, thats because he wants to make it with Cube, but Quake works with Mac, too.... have to ask him :D ... and would it make much work if he do this with the Quake engine? (grob gesehen, vom Aufwand her halt)

The only problem I can see with cube is md2. Quite simply, I've had no end of sarcastic fun trying to get those things to work right. Of course, it is a nice engine to get into and IIRC saurbraten isn't much more complex for the logic side.

Well, thats my problem, too :D

I asked him, and he answered, eigther he use the Cube (or Sauerbraten) engine, or the darkplaces engine. But, I dont know, which one he uses finally. I think, he wantes to make that project alone, it would spend a much time to do that [...].

from what i understand cube/cube2 uses an ingame eniting system, and afaik threres no stand alone editor. Tho i only tried this ingame editor very little, my over all experiance with ingame geometry editing is that its slow, clumbersome and limited.
HOF:
<Diablo> the nex is a "game modification"
<Diablo> quake1 never had a weapon like that.
<Vordreller> there was no need for anything over 4GB untill Vista came along
<Samua>]Idea: Fix it? :D
<Samua>Lies, that only applies to other people.

So... Ive learned a bit more in the few days, the ingame editor is awesome, but if we (yes, I think I could help him :D) make a game, we should have to remove that editor or any possibillity to change parts or edit ones in the map. And we need a menu, settings, etc. A lot of work. And if I'm already using this engine, I thought on a TJ game (yes, Im still jumping in Quake 3 ;)), but first the RPG :D So its just a matter of time, since there a first release of that game :D

And we stay at the Cube Engine. But we use "Sauerbraten"'s (Cube 2's) Game Engine, because there are many more possibillytys in mapping. And for my ideas, there ar ebetter physical conditions :)
