DVI and VGA

Postby pyreforge » Tue Oct 31, 2006 11:11 am

Hey, I was just wondering whether I would get any noticeable quality decrease if I used a VGA monitor connector over DVI at 1280x1024?

Thanks :)

That depends on the monitor you are using.
It's obviously better to use DVI, since otherwise the monitor has to convert the analog signal back to a digital signal. So it all depends on how well your DFP does that conversion.
I haven't tested the difference with my DFP yet, but i guess it wouldn't be that significant...

Oh, and it depends how good your VGA signal is.

Integrated graphics (on mainboards) usually only have average to horrible signal quality. I'll never understand why the majority of such mainboards (many of them are targeted at business IT - workers sitting in front of their machines the whole day long) doesn't come with a DVI connector.
