New Website, 2.4 info

Postby Vermeulen » Sun Feb 24, 2008 11:10 pm

Thanks to -z- the Nexuiz project now has a new website, along with a new media page and video showing off the next release.
Scheduled to be released in the next few weeks, Nexuiz 2.4 will include an entirely new menu system, new content such as three new weapons models and two maps, and new effects for explosions and water/slime reflections. The release's memory usage has been reduced, and numerous optimizations and new features have been added. You can view a complete list of changes on our development wiki here.

There have also been many Nexuiz fan websites opened since the last release:
NexuizNinjaz - A fan site dedicated to teaching the ways of Nexuiz Ninjaz, with tutorial videos and forum
Nexuiz.info - Complete list of Nexuiz related links.
OUNS - Unofficial Nexuiz wiki for players.
PlanetNexuiz.de - A complete German fan site.

I noticed that in recent svn builds, assault and onslaught aren't part of the menu yet. Is there going to be official support for them in the final release (mostly just in the way of maps) or is it going to be held off on until community maps become more abundant?

Oh, the new website for sure is much nicer than the old one. I assume it'll be a lot more successful to get interested people into actually downloading the game.

However, the video is just too big. I don't mean the size its displayed, I mean its file size. 43 MB for 75 seconds of video, that's roughly half a meg per second! No usual pipe will be able to stream that.

That video player doesn't seem to buffer very well. There's no buffering status (like on youtube, etc). Also, when it gets to the end of the buffered video, it just jumps back to the beginning screen.

Vermeulen, I'd like to know what graphics settings you're using to make the video with that high of graphic detail. I used ultimate.cfg and turned on highest settings that I could find, and even played with the bump map cvar. I can't seem to get that level of quality in my video output.

The audio of that clip gets out of sync for me quite soon, that's not good.

Well, the ONS mode needs a little more work afaik. Sounds, an explosion effect for the generator, and at the end the game currently just stops, but imo the players should be able to see the generator exploding.
And it's really better with some CSQC enhancements, like a minimap, which cannot be included in 2.4, although 2.4 is already compatible, but 2.3 isn't, but you should be able to play on SVN servers using a 2.4 client AND csqc running :)

I have to agree. The video is not watchable here - Firefox under linux.
I had to download it to be able to watch. This has to be changed.
