The idea is good and in general works very well. The readme mentions how to get the current version from SVN. So people can take part and see what happens. But i think a game needs to be in a polished state when its released and this also counts for a test release. There are test releases available from time to time for people that do not like to use SVN.
(However as Nexuiz does change very much from version to version most releases are incompatible and as one of the earlier test releases was announced as a new release on some news sites by some (friendly) guy i think this motto can also be a problem at times)
