The patch (NOT the release zip) has a somewhat serous bug: background music is missing on many maps.
If you are on Linux or OS X, you can fix the pk3 by this command in a terminal:
zip -d data/data20090501patch.pk3 sound/cdtracks/thru-the-mirror.ogg sound/cdtracks/subcities.ogg sound/cdtracks/neuronal-diving.ogg sound/cdtracks/infight.ogg sound/cdtracks/digital-pursuit.ogg sound/cdtracks/chaos-fog.ogg sound/cdtracks/calling-bogus.ogg sound/cdtracks/breakdown-easy.ogg sound/cdtracks/brainsukker.ogg.
On Windows, it may be possible to do the same, but I don't know if and how these items appear in Explorer. Someone please test that and post a guide. Maybe an app like 7zip is needed to fix it, in case Explorer does not show these items.
The patch download has been replaced on sourceforge, but it may take a while for the fix to appear on the mirrors. It already is on switch:

1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again
You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.
