what the fuck?! have you been taking classes from mikee on how to offend large groups of ppl at once? you know better then that. at least i thought you did.
I don't really think it's that big of a deal. I'm an artist, and I do think data should be free. You can't own and control information because it is abstract, it has no physical presence or limitations to quantity and as such no one can "steal" it from you, they can only copy it, which doesn't deprive you of it (which is what actual stealing would do).
But that aside when we contribute to open projects, we just have to check that whatever materials we use are GPL or PD (or double check in the case of CC licenses which are more complex and some of which might be bullshit when it comes to being "Common", imo). And of course you always have the option to make it all from scratch, which is the safest and most glorious route.

Well, what im reacting to is a official alientrap developer making a statement that's roughly equalizes most artists with criminals. not cool.
I think Div has made it clear though he doesn't want to be an "official" dev with all of that extra load riding on him simply because he is contributing more than ordinary community members and doing so for free. That's basically having to buy one responsibilty and then getting another one for free.
I'm unclear on what Alientrap is or how it is organized, but my understanding is Nexuiz at this point is supposed to be a community project with some ranking, but primarily developed by people who just love this game and game development.
Also on a side note, with so many modern countries that imprison and considers criminals, folks for just smoking or eating happy plants and mushrooms and similarly harmless activities, "criminal" doesn't by itself mean all that much. Laws are just very well enforced and temporary opinions, your main reason for obeying them is so that you don't get squashed in your time, place and culture. But I digress. . .
