Music services - Jeff Broadbent

Postby jeb247 » Mon May 18, 2009 11:33 pm

Hi guys. I'm a music composer, and wanted to offer my services if you'd like me to write a track or two for your game. I've worked on a variety of projects. You can visit my website: http://officialjeffbroadbent.webs.com/ to hear samples of my work. In particular I'd listen to the Action and Hybrid/Electronic sections of the music page.

Feel free to contact me if I can be of any help to you. My email address is: broadbentjeff@yahoo.com

Thanks! Keep up the great work.

Listening to your music, I can only say that it is of professional quality. I'm surprised that no one else has responded yet. You are clearly extremely competent; I'm a bit curious as to whether you realize that this (Zymotic) will not be a commercial project, and anything you contribute would most likely have to be done under an open-source license. Not to doubt your motives, it's just that professionals don't usually jump to contribute to projects where they don't get paid. :-]

I hope you are in fact one of those precious few, because the quality of this music surpasses everything I've heard in an open-source game to date.

Hi, I'm glad you like the music. I'm actually a student finishing up school (will be done in a month), and wanted to contribute some good music and in turn get the experience/credits.

Unfortunately though, Saulo, another developer, let me know that due to the GPL license I cannot use commercial soundbanks in the music (all my music is made with commercial soundbanks). Otherwise I'd be happy to contribute a track or two.

Nonetheless, in the future if this policy ever changes or if you're working on a commercial project, I'd be happy to assist you. I actually want to compose music for games for a living, and will be trying to get into this shortly.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hmm, that's an interesting predicament. If that's general practice for music artists in this field, I can see why it would be difficult to produce music for open-projects. Would you mind linking to one of the soundbanks you use most often? I'm interested to know the extent of those licensing restrictions.

Of course, this is a bit unfortunate for you as well, since artists always benefit from having their work used in projects (for your porfolio, etc).

Sure, I commonly use libraries from this company: http://www.soundsonline.com/home.php

I was told by Saulo (Nexuiz developer) that commercials libraries are not able to be used in GPL liscense games; only music programs/banks that are free.

Is this the case? I'm curious, as I haven't done GPL projects before.

Thanks,

Jeff
