  • I have only found one server that uses grapples. I have had a good experience with it, and wonder why there are not more? Please respond, i am new here, so i'm naturaly curious.

  • Grapples are fun, but people tend to think they cheapen gameplay a lot.

Some servers allow you to call a vote to enable them, so try typing "vcall g_grappling_hook 1" in the console to see if it'll work.

  • Well the hook is off by default and i guess most people just stick with the defaults.. actually its also a good idea to do so or else every server is different and one can't get a feel for the game.

Also the hook does change the gameplay rather drastic which is a thing a admin has to think about when setting up a server. It might be fun but most of the maps (if not all) were made for playing without the hook. the laser is also very good to move around with kinda rocketjumps so the hook is not really needed.

However you can try to vote the hook on on most servers (one can done by default and remember most admins just stick with the defaults) But remember the server admin might not like this if he was unaware that this can be done!
You can try to vote it by entering vcall g_grappling_hook 1 in the ingame console and hope that enough of the players press F1 to accept the vote..

<offtopic> "vhelp" will list all available vote options (the server admin might use aliases for some options...) </offtopic>

  • aliases? So, right now the chmap function requires the proper full name of the map or it won't work. Can I setup an alias for each map name? such as...

    vcall chmap facingworlds2

    rather than

    vcall chmap ctf_facing_worlds_nex

  • you can't create aliases for mapnames, just for commands. however you could copy the mapcfg to facingworlds2.

  • Well you could copy or link a new *.mapcfg filename and use that instead of the 'real' name.
Meaning: open the .pk3 file, copy the mapcfg into Nexuiz/data/maps and renaming it.
Then vcall chmap facingworlds canl work.
Upps sorry, kadaverjack already mentioned this..
