  • A team based mod like Team Fortress maybe?
    Although it has already been done (for Q1, Q3, Halflife, ET,...) and won't
    catch peoples' attention if it doesn't include some cutting-edge features.
    + too many mods can divide an already small community even more.

    About crawling ability, vehicles and so on... Well, there are 2 types of shooters.
    Let's call them fictional shooters ("shoot the rocket at your feet and you can do
    some really nice flying maneuvers") and reality shooters ("shoot the rocket at
    your feet and your body parts are lying scattered around the area"). Nexuiz
    is of the first type and it should stay like that.

  • I was thinking things like GMOD, or mabie new kinds of gameplay, also people could use the nexuiz engine (that's probably not the right way to refer to it, but...) to make mabie a single player game.

    * work on maps
    * better netcode
    * better performance
    * positionable weapons (left, center, right)
    * a nexuiz advertising campaign
    * settings optimization tutorial
    * sex appeal???
    * this: http://www.esreality.com/?a=post&id=1295519
    * less boxy maps
    * cover, vehicles, team modes and exciting new weapons like Half Life 2's gravity gun
    * some maps and modes that force high flying
    * spark effect AND decals
    * actual mod system w/ SDK
    * language packs
    * Story mode engine

    I think that if we were to just add some single player functionality into mapmaking (ie bot spawn points, making different kinds of models for enemies, etc.) and put a singleplayer mode into the game, where you get the story files, it would become a completely new kind of game, anybody who can map, and think of a good story can make story scripts, IE:

    Code: Select all
    (cutscene plays)
    cd track 5
    (various other map specific setup)
    map story1
    (when objective is completed, continue...)
    (cutscene plays)
    cd track 2
    (various other map specific setup)
    map story 2
    etc...

    can create a new game without re-making the engine.

    It was already tried using the old 1.2.1 codebase. It kind of fell to the wayside and most of the team went on to start developing it for ioq3

    A story engine would be great. I'd imagine there's something like that already implemented for Zym. Zym's release seems like it would strengthen the AT following.

  • I think the main interface needs a make-over. The graphics don't seem to have much to do with the overall feel of nexuiz. It's more quake-esque than anything. I think something simple with a high-res picture of a character, map or game play would suffice.

    A quick mock-up of what I mean:

    Image

    Along with a make-over, I think the buttons, scrollbars and sliders should be more user-friendly.

    One last thing, I don't think you should join the server when you click it in the server list, instead, it should update the server information and there should be a join button.

    Oh yeah, thanks for bringing this up. I always wanted to say something about this as this have bothered me a lot but always when I quit Nexuiz I forget :P Yeah, I really hate that when you click in the server browser just once you join, especially if it's not finished refreshing and you see the server you want to join and click but misses and joins another server. That's really annoying. Has happened to me many times, heh some just don't have the patience to wait till it's finished :P

    Haha! I was actually thinking about games that are full and you're waiting to join when I wrote that but damn, you're right. I hate that too.

    Another thing I just noticed while playing... Since the who-killed-who appears in the center of the screen now, it's really hard to see who killed you when it overlays the score. Perhaps a black background on that popup?

    If you don't understand what I'm talking about, I'll try to cap a screen if I remember.

  • Personally I vastly prefer the current menu art to the above mockup. Nex is an industrial feeling game, and the menu has an industrial feel. That is perfect.

    I think there are two things that could be easily improved:

    1 - like Cheapalert(leillei) said - the weapon positioning makes them feel kinda wimpy, and not beefy. That is a personal preference of mine, I really have always loved the way UT presented their veiw of the v_weps.

    2 - The movement. It still feels very quake 1 to me, like kinda swimmy? If the movement were crisper, ala q2, q3, maybe that would help.

    Either way, Nexuiz is VERY succesful to this point, and in the developer's position, I'd be leery of messing with the formula tooooo much :)

  • Sounds for jumping. Every FPS I have played have had some type of sound when you jump. Just one off the top of my head. Keep up the great work.

    Because there is a loud sound when landing I think this is overkill. But that's just me.

  • There were a lot of sexy mockups made at the old forum; unfortunately, most of them required menu code rewrites to be worth anything.

    The OLD FORUM!!!! :cry: :cry: :cry: waaaa
    i so miss theminimalisticthread and the other useless junk in the off-topic forum...

    Jump sound?? Why on earth do you want such a disgusting thing??? This reminds me It's these "little" differences that make Nexuiz so great... :)

    + Widescreen anyone?

    + And could there be an alternative to the menu? I believe Legends had an option to choose between 3 different menu layouts and colors.

  • I have just a few things:

    Server list should be setup better. I'm talking like, buttons that narrow down your searches (i.e. don't display empty/full servers button) and an IP join button (Though you can just join via the terminal :wink: ) possibly something that shows the status of the server (i.e. who's on server specs, server info etc. etc.).

    Sounds are kinda funky, I'm not saying they are bad, but a few things could be improved on. Music possibly, but the weapon sounds are okay.

    Then one last thing, most people do not realize this but Nexuiz could use a HEADSHOT feature.

    If I liked headshots I'd play UT, no Nexuiz

  • objection: I think headshots are awsome! only if you have a really masculine announcer say HEAD_SHOT though. :D In all seriousness, there are alot more important things, but any cool addition to gameplay will make nexuiz even better.

    Wait a minute: doesnt nexuiz have headshots? what then is the guy who says "Awsome- did yoda show you that?"

    I agree that headshots are fun, but the devs seem to disagree so we probably won't see them included any time soon.

    The Yoda line is whenever you pull off a Nex shot while in air.

  • The yoda is if you hit someone with a nex, and both you and him are in air. Or you shoot an invicible player in mistagib.

  • I'd put in my vote for improved weapon models (particularly the RL, and particularly from the first-person view). At the moment they look amateurish and rather outdated.

    Secondly, a revamp of the game menu system would be great.

    Don't change too much though (:

    * better netcode
    * positionable weapons (left, center, right)
    * sex appeal???
    * this: http://www.esreality.com/?a=post&id=1295519
    * less boxy maps
    * exciting new weapons like Half Life 2's gravity gun
    * spark effect with decals
    * language packs
    * better menu/different menu themes
    * improved server browser
    * better models

  • I don't have a refined list yet. I'll think more about it and do that another time. I just wanted to add to the "better models" suggestion.

    If any of the models are redone, I would suggest doing the player models first. For some reason, that was one of the first things that I noticed about Nexuiz, that the player models looked very amateurish compared to the rest of the game. No offense to whoever modeled them :-/

    *An Install file for Nexuiz on Windows and Apple, as well as .rpm/.deb/.package installers.
