Hi, I played Nex for a while now. From Version 1 to 1.5. I have paused for a while. Now I downloaded to new Version and played for about 15 min but this new chat, was really annoying!
And someone pasted all the time his play list from his music player. As if someone would like to know it. This made me sick. I was so annoyed that I didn't tried to search a button to deactivate the chat. Just quit the game.
Some would say I had a bad game where I lost to often and was angry. But this is only partially true, because I know I'm a weak player and I don't give anything about it. I can loose and can be happy with that.
Whatever! I'm some kind of annoyed.

Well at least i will give you some info then . You can disable the chat area with the command con_chat 0 in the ingame console which you can open with shift-escape (or when in a game its easier to use ` thats the button left of 1). The default setting of con_chat is 5, so con_chat 5 will make it show up again. The current setting and default is displayed if you just enter con_chat.

And yeah you do not want a response but everyone has bad days now and then

Oh thats useful. If you disable the chat area with con_chat 0 the chat will appear in the top area again. So you can't really disable the chat totaly unless you also disable that upper info area (con_notify 0/4) but there is no useful stuff in that toparea (unless stuff you pickup is interesting) and the chat area is much closer to the hud were you eyes look more often but your mileage may vary.

BTW, who was the one who chat spammed? XENO THE BLIND is a great chat spammer (well, he's having fun with it... but let him), but on my server he hasn't spammed his play list yet.

Its very unusual here to close threads.. If someone wants to add more to some thread he is free to do so. Only some 'special' (mosty in a bad sense) threads get closed.

Hehe yeah Xeno can be a little spammer now and then but never in a bad way. His flags and funny stuff is just that.. funny. but i have not yet seen anyone spam his playlist or similar and i think it would require a bit of work to do this for real.

Well, he did spam in a bad way - but stopped doing that. Now it's just fun... the disco light messages

I never thought my comment on the chat would be so controversy. But anyway. I found something that is also a main part of my problem, but it has nothing to do with the game itself. I'm using a widescreen resolution with only 768 resolution height! And if there are 4 to 5 lines of chat, than this is a lot of space.
So there is only one possible place for the chat: the top. And I'm so content with the con_Chat 0 Option.
I didn't want to offend anyone. It is a funny idea the thing with the play list, but I need so much concentration for playing the game that I felt a bit disturbed. But maybe it is part of that players tactic. hihi. No seriously I think it took him a great deal of time to implement it and he must be proud of it.
And with closing the the thread: I thought the problem was solved... But I forgot that this is a General Discussion.

In advance, please forgive me for being addicted to spamming as well, not to say I seem to be the real godfather of ingame spamz (not the king however)

So if you dont like so many messages, there's another setting you can do in the console:

con_notify 5 which iirc is the default and means up to 5 messages are shown at once can be set down to 0 if you dont want to see any messages at all. The only thing that will remain is the bleep....bleep....bleep....bleep

OK since I have the con_chat option and the chat is on the top again, I have the same fun as it ever was (a dig at the Talking Heads hihi)
I also found more options in this forum I could use for a smoother game play. And the reworked player models, weapons and the other stuff does really look good. Plus the newer versions work better in linux than with windoze for me.
Just one more thing, it isn't that I didn't like the chat and funny spams, but on my PC took it to many space of my view. As mentioned in my other posts.

Well you can try the option con_textsize and lower it from 8 to 6 for example. but then things will get harder to read.

Wouldn't it be possible to prevent spamming from the server end?

In other words, keep one user from posting a bunch of messages within a certain short time span? It's annoying when people post 10 lines within 2-3 seconds.

There should be some limit available for the server admin to set.

and if not flood-protection, an ignore command would be good

When it comes to spamming i think this quote may help: “Only actions give life strength; only moderation gives it charm.” And me apologizes for my spamming which i know i do alot (but always in moderation and with respect for others) and im deeply sorry if i have caused anyone any grief

This is getting somewhere I didn't wanted it. Nobody needs to apologize. Only maybe thinking about it.
As I have written somewhere one mayor part was that my resolution (1280x768) isn't so large like yours. If you see 5 lines on the bottom of the screen than it is no problem, but if I see 5 lines in the middle of the screen you'll go nuts. But now everything is solved, I'm content with my setup and the game. With the Chat on the top I can read the messages or not.
Also I didn't want to compromise someone. I didn't mentioned any name.
So rock on and keep spaming
