  • For those of you annoyed by the Nexuiz icon and it's blending with white I made 2 simple icons for people to use. One black and one white.

    Image Image

In order to download them, right click on one of the URL's below and click "Save Target (or link) As."

    Get the black one here
    Get the white one here

In order to use these icons:

Go to the shortcut of Nexuiz > right click > Click on the Change Icon button > Click Browse > Locate the place you put your icon > Click okay > Click Apply > Click okay.

    Alternate as used is correct.

    al·ter·nate (ôl'tər-nāt', ăl'-)

    adj. (-nĭt)
Serving or used in place of another; substitute: an alternate plan.

The difference is in the "nit"

    No it isn't:
    common misuse when meaning alternative

    http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/alternate

It is is not correct in any form of English language. It is used quite frequently in North America and is considered an 'Americanism' by many other English speakers but is wrong in US English too.

It's a good example of how many perceived lexical differences between different English speaking countries are only misuses as ignorance is generally poorly travelled. I have rarely heard an American use a double negative but it is commonly used (and completely incorrect in any dialect) by many uneducated Briton's.

    Anyway, nice icons.

  • Yeah, well I guess you can say that, considering I am American. Whatever I changed the title.

You also should consider the fact that I am usually posting these articles in the middle of the night so I never get my vocabulary straight.

ANYWAY, I really like that icon that santos made.

  • Off topic  but I dont really have a problem with double negatives, and the like. While I dont speak that way myself, double negatives almost never intentionally negate each other; double negatives simply add emphasis to what you're saying. In French, double negatives are used all the time (I think ) :D

Off topic too: Heh, I also think about that stuff whenever people use it, cause what they are saying is not what it means :P Sometimes it's mind boggling. Especially things like "I doubt he won't make it"...

Ed, language is an evolving thing. To say that it is an Americanism, and thus wrong, is really not fair. All language changes over time, especially as it moves across geographical regions. That can be true even within the same country (northern and southern regions).

It does make sense to use it as a noun in place of the word "alternative". There are many other words that have verb, adjective and noun variations, depending on the context. It's okay.

Well...it's okay within the scope of English Language. English itself is a pretty strange language though.

Read and comprehend next time.

That is not what I said, in fact it's rather the opposite. It is assumed an Americanism by many non-Americans however it is not an acceptable usage in US English either, it's just plain wrong, what ever English dialect it's in. So it's not an Americanism at all, it's just wrong.

Anyway I just thought I was clearing things up originally as I saw the title and was rather expecting to see an animated icon which switched between two states at regular intervals. I was rather sceptical as I can't think of an environment that it would work in. Now perhaps you can understand my surprise and swift action to clear this up. :P
