  • Hi there,
downloaded the patch 2.2.3 but can't really figure out exactly how to update the 2.2.1.
Don't want to just copy it all onto my external HD cause when I unpacked the patch I noticed the folders are the same and I don't want to overwrite the originals in fear of losing any data I may have saved.

I've read the FAQ, the docs and searched the net but can't find any hints as to how to proceed..

Please, I beg of you... HELP ME. I'm at my wits end.

  • You just unpack it in the Nexuiz folder and overwrite the existing files. The setting will stay the same (video, effects, nick, model, color etc.) and if you're afraid to lose .cfgs just make a copy of it to make sure you have them. But I don't think Nexuiz comes with any .cfgs, at least not the patches so everything should stay the same.

If with data you mean corrupted files then you don't have to worry about that.

  • Why dont the devs just make a *.exe installer ? takes like 1 min. and the difference between a ip and exe is only a matter of 2-3 mb when we talk the size of nexuiz

  • Nexuiz is cross platform, so an exe would be pretty much useless for mac and linux i think. Its not that hard to drag and drop the files...
    Not really necessary imo.

  • The team should definitely get an active third-party person to make and host .exe installers for each version (as well as patches) just to make it easier for the end-user who might not know any better. I'm sure there's plenty of people out there who would be turned off by having to do anything more than a simple point-click-run installation (granted, unzipping is a point-click-run install, but it's not familiar enough to some doze users, so it'll just scare them ;))

  • I have looked at making such things before. You could easily make it a much smaller download as you could use much more powerful compression. I've got Tinynex under 40Mb before.

I'm not personally bothered as I don't use Windows.

  • Thanks for your reply ai, and you other guys, I'll give it a go. And I would say that Torus is right. If it's a matter of dragging and dropping the files I don't think there is any need for an installer. (An .exe installer could ofcourse be unpacked with Universal Extractor or other prog but then again, why bother if it's this easy)

    Thanks again

  • I have experience in making an installer (NSIS). But I too thinks this is useless for Nexuiz. ZIP files is so freaking easy to handle.

But there seems to be a lot of people asking for an Nexuiz installer during the years. So maybe it should be done in the future?

  • I also experienced problems with the patch.
When I wanted to extracted it to the folder I had warnings about problems to create files. So I thought something went wrong and I downloaded the full pack and extracted it. And surprise the same errors. This bandwidth could have been saved.
The problem was with some symbolic link folders I think. Maybe I choose the wrong options to extract it.
Anyway it is running fine. And shows the right version. And yes I use Linux.
Maybe this can be deterrent to unexperienced users. Just a thought.

  • danfPeter: which zip program are you using? I only used used unzip on the shell so far, which works without problems... If there are zip programs that don't work for patching, it would be good to know which ones, so we could add a warning or something to the FAQ. (perhaps you could post a screenshot of the message?)

  • I used unzip in the terminal. And for testing (reproduction) purpose I tried some different versions in combination with the patch, but couldn't reproduce the error. I also tried it with file roller (gnome) but everything works fine.
Sorry must be my mistake, seems like I started to flap. Maybe I should stop smoking crack.
