Someone on here (Esteel?) said that Nexuiz was a typo from the name Nexiuz, that whoever registered the domain made a typo and then they just went with it.

Is there any possibility of changing the name back to Nexiuz since www.nexiuz.org is available?

Shade... *I* know how to pronounce Nexuiz. That is not the point. The point is that the original intended name is NEXIUZ and the current spelling, NEXUIZ, causes confusion. I'm suggesting that it be changed back to that. What are the downsides?

I kinda like Nexuiz. Though when I was new to the game I thought it was Nexiuz.. But after watching some show in Germany where the developers had interview with some game tv show I saw that they too asked how it was pronounced (if I remember correctly). Then when I heard whoever it was, that said "Ne-XU-iz" in German I thought "Aha.. it must be Germanized this name". And whenever I have troubles pronouncing it (which I don't have now) I thought of that show

I see no reason to change the domain or name now, as everyone has gotten how its written. Its a wellknown name by now.

For the pronunciation just listen to the welcome sound in the menu..

The welcome-sound pronounces it clearly like <neks-ie-uss>.
But noone would pronounce it like this because it is written different. I would pronounce it like tChr <neks-sjhu-iss> or <neks-ui-ss>.

Why the hell should i call a "fruit" <fr-ie-uut>?

So the only downside is that people are used to the name? Well, I'm not sure that is completely true I think there are a lot of people that play the game and don't know how to pronounce it. If that is the only downside, then I don't think it is a very big concern. People would learn the new name very quickly. The current domain name could redirect.

I know that the game says "Welcome to Nexuiz" at the start of the game, but I typically don't have my headphones on until I'm about to connect to a server, so I rarely hear it.

Whenever I tell someone about Nexuiz, I pronounce it "Nex-ee-uss" and they look at me like... "are you sure that's the way to pronounce it?"

It comes off as just another strange open-source software name...like Joomla, or the Gimp. hehe.

Did I mention that www.nexiuz.org is available?

I love to say Nexuiz. I say it exactly as it is spelled. How hard is it really? Give it a try and you'll see it's just as easy to say Nexuiz as it is to say Nexiuz. The thing is that people probably "assume" it's spelled and said Nexiuz as that is more common in our brains and nature of speech. But really, I think it's just as easy both of those, no need to change name or anything. I agree with cyan, kinda stupid thread, just say Nexuiz

Some like different words than others. I like the word "exactually". Some people don't like it. Besides, it's not even a real word.

I remember a discussion about changing the name of Nexuiz back in the days of the old forum (Rest in peace, old forum) and the collective request got rejected. It would be silly to give in now.

I like the provoking habit of the word "Nexuiz". Nobody knows how to pronounce it. People start thinking about it. It nests inside their brains like a tick. And grows. After a while the pressure is too big to stand and they give in and start playing Nexuiz. Again. And again. And again.

If it were possible, I would support changing the name. Being too lazy to correct mistakes leads only to their acceptance and general degradation. Also, until "Nexiuz" is claimed, it's possible for trolls to grab it.

As for pronunciation, I read it as "Nexwiz" the first time too. Pronouncing that word as "Nexuiz" is like something out of Newspeak. Ask Picard.
