Powerups in CTF.

  • At the moment the only powerup is Strength / Quad whatever you call it that i see in CTF...

    I spoke on irc a few days back about introducing other powerups? maybe so we don't have just one quad on a map or something.

    Things that i mentioned with esteel.

    Battlesuit (similar to Q3's battlesuit) Half's damage taken or something along them lines.
    A Haste stlye powerup (Q3's haste increase speed by a 1/3rd and doubles your fire-rate and maybe something else)
    Health Regen (I know nexuiz has this with own health regen, but it takes a while before it kicks in, maybe make this work faster)
    Shield. (which we already have i believe not sure what it exactly does)

    I just wrote these as viable ideas from other game's powerups e.t.c

    What do you think about this idea, i think it will enhance the ctf play a bit atleast proper team based games with clans, and i just generally think we need to be able to collect some other powerups (on CB's new big map he is making for example since it's quite a large / long map to cap by the looks of it)

    Anyhow write...or if you want to be picky 'type' some idea's down.

    Please nothing like 'How about a lamp which when you grab / touch / rub you get 3 magical weopens from Alakazam THE MAGICAL NEXUIZ GENIE!" e.t.c

  • It'd be nice to see some really original power-ups, though I can't think of anything good at the moment.

    Hmm. Maybe some kind of Beserker power-up where you constantly run at a speed you can't control for the duration of the power up, but you can aim the direction you move in; your weapons are disabled, but any person you hit automatically explodes. Maybe have a 5-10 second duration on that?

  • That seems like you'd be a human Gauntlet...so basically your a melee weopen and you can't fire? and you can be shot at..

    seems more like it would disadvantage me more then anything :P

  • Although this kinda brings nexuiz toward Halo a bit, a "ninja" powerup would be awsome- basically invisibility, and speed (like the speed rune), but 3/4s dmg.

  • A invisiblity power-up could work, not to sure on the speed increase...and damage i'm less inclined only because


    i just found out that the shield you only take 20% of the damage (awesome :P)


    but invisibility sounds possible i guess....perhaps with a faint outline like the invisibility in minstagib?

  • Yea- not totally invisible, which would be very unfair, but like an active camo type invisible. I dont think that increased damage would work here, or even reg damage, because you could circle an enemy and they couldnt see you.

    These should probably just be tested out with different configurations until the best one is obvious. :)

  • is it possible to have this?
    a "giant" powerup where your model actually scales up like 1.3x or 1.5x and you are bigger than everyone else, and you move a little faster and perhaps take more damage...and if anyone touches you then they bounce away as if you hit them with a laser.

    Downsides
    - You are heavier so laser/rocket/etc jumping doesn't get you as far, and you can't jump as high, and the grapple doesn't pull you as well.
    - You can hurt teammates if they bump into you. If no team damage setting is on, then you receive damage from bumping into teammates.
    - You can't fit into the same spaces as everyone else because you are bigger.

  • How about an ALL WEAPON powerup where you have all of the weapons for a short amount of time (with limited starting ammo of course)

  • What about a flight powerup?

    Not sure how it would work, but it would have to have some limitations, like you would sparkle so everyone could easily see you and you would stand out as a target.

    WHERE do you americans get these idea's from...is there some kind of jacket in the US military that makes people bounce / blow up when it touches the 'enemy'?

    if so why haven't i seen it!

  • An emulation powerup

    Where you look slightly like your enemies wearing something close to their color...but not exactly their color. If you are on the blue team, then you would be change into a reddish-orange color. If people glanced at you in a crowded room, then you may get away with being seen as one of their team. If you are on the red team, then you would switch to a slighty purplish-blue color for a while.

    It could fool some people but not everyone. If you fool your own teammates, then you get shot by them.

    Hehe... I have no idea. I just started having random ideas flood my head. I think I've been working too long today and need to go home. :-P (I'm at work right now)

    BTW, I was thinking more Juggernaut than the Hulk. :-)

  • ok, the opposite...

    A thinning powerup where your model becomes literally thinner and lighter than usual and your hit-box becomes smaller so you are more difficult to hit with weapons like the shotgun, railgun, machinegun, etc.

  • a pr0n powerup where you can shoot out these pods that inflate into sexy hot blowup dolls that both confuse and entertain your enemies.

    Putting runes in CTF would be rather easy, but without balance adjustments, i see no reason why anyone would pick up a rune on purpose (except for speed), since the negative effects outweigh the positive effects.

  • some random powerups ideas :)

    phase shifting - each bullet have 1/3 chance to go through you
    healbot - you heal all nearby teammates
    guardian - you shield all nearby teammates reducing dmg taken by 10%
    speed - 20% more speed for you and your teammates
    stealth - make all nearby teammates 90% invisible, you are not affected
    hellfire - each explosion have 30% chance to set enemy on fire, damaging it over time
    freezer - each bullet have 30% chance to freeze enemy reducing it speed by 30%
    diseases - you spread disease to all nearby enemys that slowly damage them over time
    living battery - you have 20% chance to shock enemys near you by electricity (pushing them back like laser or stronger ) and you rise dmg of all energy weapons by 30% near you
    judgment - every1 that you aim, have weight incresed 2x make him unable to jump

    i think that in ctf there should be more powerups that promote teamplay over 1 uber strong guy

  • Those powerup ideas are AWESOME!
    I love the emphasis on team benefits. It could make the team more focused on team organization like group attacks and such.

    Eh, just trying to come up with original ideas. I'm more interested in seeing all new ideas thrown in than rehashing stuff that other games have done already.

    4. Open the file in Notepad again

    You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

    i shall stop my sarcasticness for one post :wink:

    Original yes....but you have to think in line with the current gameplay...and be realistic with powerups

    Morphed posted some good idea's but they give the whole team an advantage and i think that's too much of an advantage over another team even though the percentages of what the powerup's do is quite low.
