  • generally the screenshot is shot by the mapper himself. so if he wants to discredit the map, well, it's his map after all... 8)

  • The black screenshots are meant as a warning - because this is what you WILL see on the map. For example, blueamuse81.

I always try to make the screenshots representative, that is, they should show the "average" of the map. blueamuse has LOTS of completely dark rooms.

Also, I made all the screenshots because most map screenshots are very small and overlapped with text.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • I am now going through the list.

augenkrebs - it's my own map, and the screenshots of that map "traditionally" show the newest engine feature abused. This time: multiple color tinted mirrors.

blueamuse - what I said. It has many rooms that look like that.

dastower - yes, it IS so dark around the flag

    davesantitower - dito

digdigdig - sorry, that map never looks good, and I never show screenshots of in-game scenes, just of the map itself

dusty - this is where the Nex is, and IMHO it looks okay like that

medley - this is a joke map

nordiccastle - many scenes in that map look like that

spacebubble - you often see that when playing

suicidebooth - joke map, and does look like that. The fun of the map is that it pushes everyone to its middle and gives him a rocket launcher...

tznex03remix - everyone will recognize it by that screen

If anyone thinks his map is misrepresented - I can at any time "re-shoot" a map. Just tell me the coordinates for a screenshot (r_speeds 1 shows coordinates and looking direction).
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

  • [nordiccastle] Is this a castle map? I am looking for nexuiz castle maps but have been disapointed on what I have seen so far. Is it any good and can you show some screenshots of the outside and inside? Are any others of those maps castle maps?

Right now I am constructing a desert castle map. It will be of the CTF two forts variety.

  • Yo, I went there and a lot of the things have no screenie. I don't want to download without knowing what I'm getting. I downloaded tzork's mental-respaced without looking at a screenshot first and it was shit. I don't want to do that again.

  • I fixed that today. Making the screenshots is hard work, because mappers never provide them in a good resolution inside the pk3. Sometimes, I start Nexuiz on all the maps that have no screenshots, make a shot and upload it - but that is tedious.

  • They almost are.

Shaders are interpreted differently often, and Nexuiz and OA come with different sets of textures. However, as both games are GPL, you can freely copy these textures around.

  • Hi Div,

This is something really great you have done. I really appreciate your work. Just on a single click people can find out the maps without searching the whole forum. I am sure this would be very useful to each and every forum members. I request you to keep updating.

    Cheers.

  • This thread os here for legacy mainly. Sure it's good to have all the maps at a place, but map download is automatic now in the game :)

Welcome to the ever evolving, mutating and always blasting Nexuiz!

  • Not to resurrect this topic, but I wanted to offer a resource which our private servers have been using since we started them nee on 6-8 or so months ago. We've compiled a repo of ~1,325 pk3's of which a good ~800-1,000 of them are individual maps or their versions, I believe. We sync our repo hourly from a few known repositories, including div's, MrBougo's, fruitie's, doku's and -z-'s (the list of which can be found here), along with maps we upload ourselves.

http://maps.nexfiles.com -- mirrors of each other
http://maps.praeclan.com -- mirrors of each other
http://www.nexfiles.com/packs/ -- repo bundled by gametype every 6 hours. No mirror of this, yet.
http://www.nexfiles.com/mapdbs/ -- db of maps of a given gametype. Probably more gametypes by now that didn't exist at the time of writing. No mirror of this, yet.

We use nexfiles as a really rudimentary, organic, stupid, incredibly cheap content delivery network. Given that it's so cheap, however, it only handles ~30 concurrent users, so if that link is broken, http://maps.praeclan.com is the resource we fall back to. Given that limitation, we don't often direct link to it. However, in this case, I want to offload as much bandwidth as possible from our main server, I'd prefer people use that primarily, if it's not giving 500 errors. I mention these resources for a few reasons:

    • If Doku, div, MrBougo, Fruitie, or -z- want us to not sync maps for some reason, let pavlvs or I know, and we'll pull you out. Our bandwidth pull from you should be fairly nominal, as 99% of the time we're only scraping the index page or a new map or two.
    • If anyone knows any other map repos, I'd love to add them.
    • I thought they'd be a good resource for anyone wanting to host their own complete repository; the allmaps.tar is our entire repo tar'd up, and can be used as a decent starting point for a map server.
    • If anyone wants to use our resources for their own game servers, please point your curl_urls.txt to http://maps.praeclan.com/proxy/i/map/ for * or http://maps.praeclan.com/proxy/i/map/mapname.pk3 for a single file. For a direct access test you can try this. I would love to eliminate this proxy and have a more robust version of curl_urls to have this handled in the DarkPlaces client.
I don't envision this being useful to many people, but I thought it might be beneficial to someone. Especially those who have small bandwidth caps and don't have the resources to host their own maps. -z-'s repo is excellent, but we wanted one that retained prior versions of maps. Find pavlvs or I on IRC if you are interested and have questions or concerns. I did have plans to make it a nice service, but time constraints and laziness always crop up for me, so I wanted to offer it as is.

  • Nice list. I like the ways.. I recommend that you add all maps to the first post so that the complete list is there. Rather than having a new post each time there are new maps in development.
