  • There's only ONE beginner's server that I can find. I log in and some jerk is owning everyone, ignoring all chat, and even type-fragging newbies.

Is there any way to deal with this unless an admin of the server?

How does one find out the contact information of a server?

    Thanks.

  • well any decent admin of a server would know when such an event would happen. If the server has it enabled you can call a vote (using vcall) and kick the player...

  • When I first started I tried to play on that server too. Even if I was an experienced player I'd still have gotten creamed because of the ping issue. I live in Ohio and that server is in Germany I think. I don't know if you live in the USA, but if you do, It might be better if you play on a server closer to you. You can tell this by the ping. There's not a lot you can do about type fraggers, even if server admin was able to identify someone, there will be others. Typefragging will never stop. If I want to type I usually do it when I'm dead. Keep moving all the time, pick up all weapons and armor and health, you'll do fine. Have fun and good luck.
Oh, and welcome to the forums :D

  • Type fragging doesn't bother me so much as jerks who are being clearly told it is for beginners, over and over again by the server, but still stay there just to nuke everyone else.

I don't think it's reasonable to expect an admin to be on the server watching it 24 hours a day.

There just aren't any beginner's servers in the US. I'd run one myself but I'm concerned about security issues.

  • Some of the really good players should show up there and pwn the morons who disrupt the newb games until they get bored and leave... I remember that I had to deal with a few of those idiots on that server when I started playing a few months ago... some of them would have 30 frags when everyone else only had 4 at most... pretty pathetic imo if that' s how you get your kicks.

  • Well even server admins have a life and do not watch their server 24/7 but yes they should at least keep an eye on it sometimes or check the logs from time to time.
As mentioned you can kick players with a vote (if the admin enabled kick-voting, you can see what is allowed to vote by entering vhelp in the console).
Its desripted here under 'easy kicking': http://forums.alientrap.local/viewtopic.php?t=90

On the other hand.. i think we should pity those that need to join a beginners server just so that they can own some others. Must feel great to own beginners. Hehe in every karate movie those would be the evil ones that get their ass kicked in the showdown at the end :)

    yea to make it clear...

    type in the console
    Code: Select all
status   (find the player number you want it will be # <number>)
    vcall kick # <number>

    Or...

    Code: Select all
    vcall kick # <number> reason

or if you are loged in a master

    vdo kick # <number>

  • Charlesk,
    welcome to Nexuiz! :)
Server admins usually put contact info into the motd. That is what you get to see when you get connected to the server.
As for the Delight servers you can have a look at http://delight.vapor.com.
Kick voting is enabled on these servers.
I don't think there are security issues with running a nexuiz server. So there is no reason not to setup your own server. :)
Esteel: I don't know what it would help if we would have an eye on the logs. Could you explain please? :)

  • Thanks for all the replies, everyone.

I do think game balance is a big issue in Nexuiz. It may be fun for some of the more advanced players to make newbies into bloodstains every 30 seconds, but this serves to deter new players from sticking with the game, and ultimately hurts even the good ones.

PS. esteel, your jump demoes are very informative, thanks for taking the time to put them together.

  • I don't think that the kickvote function is very lucky for usage on a newbie server tbh. This feature is quite difficult even for experienced players, much more for ppl who can't even open the console. Usually they don't read the chat messages either or find the F1 button

I think the main reason for those well-skilled shitheads to join the Beginner's Delight is to increase their points on the stats page.

Removing this server from the stats-counter (or whatchamacallit), would certainly help to get those eagerbeavers away from there.

I mean, where's the sense of doin stats on a noobserverz :o

  • Yeah you are right, i think i should rework the voting to be similar to the 'next map voting' so that it can be started with a simple command and you just choose the options you want to to vote for.
    like:
    console: vstart
    gives:
    1) skip map
    2) timelimit
    3) fraglimit
    4) hook on
    5) hook off
    6) auto team balance
    7) kick
    8) ban
    9) next page
    0) previous page

    but i'm lazy :)
