Just wanted to tell everyone about the new DCC's Delight "laid back" CTF server. This was originally conceived as a "newbie" CTF server like DCC's newbie DM server, but a lot of "oldbies" also enjoy the idea of a less intense CTF experience, so it's not restricted to just new players.

The goals of the server are to provide a CTF experience where the goals are fun, game balance, teamplay and helping others learn how to play -- not just winning at any cost by the highest margin possible. Of course we want to win. But we also like competitive games and a fun atmosphere.

Ever felt frustrated on others servers because high-leveled players constantly nuke you? Tired of games where 1 or 2 people run up the score by laser-jumping around too fast to kill and not balancing the teams out, and the final score is something like 300 to 75? Then give this new server a try.

The rules are pretty much standard CTF, but the reward for returning the flag is 10 points instead of 5. This balances games out quite a bit, and encourages teamwork, because the "penalty" for attacking by yourself and dying is more substantial. Server limit is currently 12 but hopefully will be increased in the future.

Slightly off topic but still relevant - perhaps the "pro" mode is someting to consider? afaik movement is slower and weapons generaly a tad less deadly.

And what happens on your server if such a "high-leveled gamer" or laserjumper joins ? Why wouldn't it become a bad game for the new players on this server compared to all other servers ? You're telling us about the intentions of the server, and the intention is to invite the skilled players to be some kind of teachers, rather than doing their own thing and owning the newbies, but there will still be a**holes who won't care.

Never the less, a good idea.

Yeah, it's my fault. I knew that that's you clan's name, esteel, but I just didn't find another name on that occasion. If you or the other LDBs dislike the server being called like this, I will change it to something else.

If some experienced trustable players would like to help having an eye on this server (and / or the newbie DM server) please contact me via PM for the rcon password.

You can also set a master password.. sv_vote_master_password "YOURPASS"
People that have that password can then login with vdo login YOURPASS and become masters on the server.. They are allowed to issue votable commands (see sv_vote_commands or try vhelp on the server) via vdo COMMAND PARAM like vdo kick # 3 behave!!

Concerning Pro mode:
I started the server with "-game pro" but when I connected the server said something like "the client needs to use "pro" too". The warning didn't appear when I started the client with "-game pro" too. Now many people won't try this I guess so I wonder if the warning can be safely ignored (except for the looks of the map I did not notice much difference).
But the other thing is that the movement seemed really weird to me and I would say it's too far away from "normal" Nexuiz to be suitable as playground to get newbies accustomed to "normal" Nexuiz. So I don't think this server will run the Pro mode and rather prefer other servers to offer it.

I did not get such an error message.. do you get it on the server or were? But anyway it does not matter.. its just server side settings, so even an old client could play on a pro server, the client does not need to know anything about pro..

Yeah, Pro is quite different from Nexuiz/data that was kinda the goal.. to attrack different people.

I tried again with a local server with "-game pro" and a client without. After joining the game and playing a while the server prints this message to the client: "NOTE: the server is running Nexuiz-2.3-pro, you have Nexuiz 2.3"

No, it is "regular" mode again. I only tried pro for a very short time this afternoon and there was only one other player on the server when it ran pro.

TSA pro CTF and DM will be on pro mode when I upgrade them

Very good initiuative.. that kind of play is the one I remember (and miss) from the early Days.

The CTF server at DCC's is temporarily down. The machine was too loaded and the other servers on it are more important to us. We will try it again when the new machine Sxen has orderd is available.
