  • ok so here's my thoughts about dave's installer. I told the same whiney guy that there was installer, and sent him the link. He said to me "it's like all scripts". I said "what the hell are you talking about? did you save it to disk?", he said "no, how do I do that?" I say "File>save". he says "I'm using IE, there is no file menu". So I said "then hit ctrl+s". He said "that does nothing". then he starts whining and bitching again.

dave, the installer is broked :D

No, works fine for me (with wine)... If you actually build the installer.

  • Thank you KadaverJack :)

I have not yet posted an installer, just the configuration files to build it, since (a) I don't have a good place to host the 270 MB installer and (b) I still have some things to do before I release it.

Dave: just host it on your storm assault profile

Uploading files of that size through a web interface on adsl is not a fun sport.

Once it's done, I'll have it hosted properly. (especially if I can buy out http://www.dave.com :) )

Since there's a debian package for nsis, i could build & host it on planetnexuiz.de...
Just tell me when you think it's ready ;) (oh, btw: how about an option to install linux & mac files, too? (off by default))

There are quite a few North American servers. Just arrange the server list by "Ping". All the servers that are closest to you will show Green Numbers. Usually it's about 80 down...not sure it might go higher. Anything above 100 and you'll experience some good lag.

Like someone said, click Ping in the server browser to organize it by ping. However, a couple of good ones I've seen are the NY and GA servers.

I tell my friends about Nexuiz with mixed results. Some play, but not regularly, and some brush it off. If we could get some larger-scale pimpage on North American websites and magazines it could probably help, as will a simple installer.

Ease of setup is really important. A few of my friends have lost interest simply because I had to troubleshoot them through the beginning. This was an older version however, so hopefully that's lessened. ;)

  • We need to do some marketing so that gamers know about nexuiz. I was thinking of placing illuminated magnetic signs all around the city of Boston.

    It would kinda looklike this:

  • Why not go to E3 and stick a poster over (or next to) Halo 3 (or some other very popular, anticipated game)?
Then nearly every gamer in the US would know about Nexuiz, and we would be bound to get at least some player (but more like a lot of spam and idiots).

But seriously, I could just sneak in Snake style (cardboard box  ) and get the job done.

  • Just representing my 'hood real quick:

I'm from New York City. None of my friends (windows users) had heard of Nexuiz until I told them. Most of them are addicted to popular console games like Halo or MMORPG's like WoW. No one bit at Nexuiz.

I originally discovered Nexuiz on the Apple website from the games downloads page.

It took me a long time of playing Nexuiz to realize that it was more of a European thing than American.

I never search for servers by ping. Instead I search by player count. It just so happens the first server I played on (and grew to like) was Fusion. Good server. I have played with Mr. Carlyle. He is awesome.

Recently I have been playing on Beckstein vs Sobersomething (I never took the time to actually read the words) I assume this is not an American server, though I either experience very little lag or just have a nice connection.

I have stuck around playing Nexuiz because it is fun. I play the less stressful CTF games. I look up to players like Mr. Carlyle and Xeno the Blind, etc. who are very skillful players with a lot of knowledge about the game. They fill me in little by little, particularly Xeno and Shaggy, though I don't play favorites :P, and eventually I hope to become a good enough player to hold my own against them.

I think Nexuiz is great, and although my efforts to get the friends I've talked with to start playing have failed, I have not given up.

Happy Fourth of July (an American holiday).
