I've been playing Nex for about a week and have found it highly enjoyable. Most of the time I've stuck to the public "standard" deathmatch servers in GA & NY because they have the lowest pings for me (I'm in the Los Angeles area on Time Warner cable) among the non-empty servers. Last night I played some oddly named mod w/ lower gravity & a green laser alt-fire which I found amusing - reminiscent of UT99 low-grav mods. One of the reasons I went looking for and took to this open source game was that I wanted a *free* game like UT99 and this was the closest match, play-wise. Also, I saw it posted somewhere that Nexuiz players in general were more mature - and having played UT03 & 04 for a while, I was quite done w/ with the "0mg haxx0r!1" and "u ch34terzzz!!11" crowd. In fact I was so fed-up w/ that crap I hadn't played an online FPS for ~ a year (actually, there's a longer story behind this involving the creation of an anti-clan, the Soft Cuddly Bunnies, but that's a story for another day).
Eh, I was going to ask a few questions here about netcode, getting the most out of OpenGL w/ an Nvidia card under Windoze, etc., but I guess it'll have to wait. Yes, I've trolled the forums, read through Xeno's stuff, I'm an IT geek, and I hack firmware and bios for fun, so they'd be too long and involved for questions here.
