Greetings all! I recognize many of the handles around here and have played many of you.

I just signed up for a forum account and plan to be sticking around with Nexuiz for a while. I will probably put up a US based server as well.

Just wanted to take the chance to introduce myself. I began playing a while ago, took a hiatus, and have finally come back, for good hopefully! I'm on the East Coast, near Washington, DC and am a professional Sys Admin.

Part of my reason for posting this hello was to get ideas for the server --

What is needed? Vanilla deathmatch, CTF? Something with a mod? I'm also debating how much of the resources it will take up. I run a couple of sites on this box, and although it's beefy (2GB dual opteron), I don't want other services to suffer too much.

Can those who run a Nex server full time let me know what to expect as far as resources?

(Could also run it at home if need be, though that would be the second option. Home connection is 15/5 so it should handle it fine. Server is 100/100 though )

What is vanilla DM? It's really up to you to set up a gamemode, however, the US does need more CTF servers as there are only two currently. Both of which don't have the best of performance.

As for mods, Spidflisk would be a great choice. Most don't like the movement (I disagree) so you might want to hold off on that for now. Dokujisan (who runs the Fusion CTF server) is going to install Spidflisk on his CTF server to see how people take to it.

By Vanilla DM, I just mean regular deathmatch with simple maps. Boring, but nice to have around.

I think it will probably be TDM or CTF.

Server is up, called Galt's Gulch. CTF with a 6 map rotation right now. I've been watching it most of the night and morning and performance seems very good

I played on the server today , and it rocked ! Very smooth even with 12 players. I think I'm hooked on CTF now.
Could use a few more maps. Also I think you might want to remove dismal. IMO it is a lousy CTF map.
Not sure if I like the grapple, I feel like Spider Man in capture city

Grapple was on for fun one day, and I removed Dismal... I'm also i the process of adding a few maps and fine tuning some things. I may put up a TDM server as well.

Hey your server has took off since day one and hasn't slowed down. You have a player limit of 16 which will accommodate most maps, but I don't see some of the larger ones on there.

Thanks for the suggestions, Mr Carlyle -- I'll definitely take a look at some of those.

I like a lot of the 70mm13 maps and they'll probably make their way to the server.

As of now, I've added mIKEctf2 and the new brokenworld CTF map listed in this forum.

brokenworld looks small and i haven't had a chance to test it yet -- so it may not last, but we'll see. I'll take opinion into account with it.

And yes -- the server has been rockin' non stop!

That's not up to me -- I'm unaffiliated, without any clan at the moment.

Ask the appropriate people if you want to join a clan.
