Stupid question? My father and friend also know of the game and we're all not quite sure. I say "Nex - long u - iz( like is)" and my friend says "Nex - uz( like us)". We both say "Nex" similiar to "next".

I don't think its so much the "Nex" part as it is the "xuiz" part. I hope the way I described them weren't too confusing.

I just started the game and I didn't hear anybody, and I went into a match in campaign I didn't hear the announcer. The only time I've heard him speak is when he tells me "TRIPLE FRAG", "FIVE FRAG COMBO", and "RAGE". At least of what I recall of.

Hmm there should be a voice sayng "Welcome to Nexuiz" when the game is started.

the sound is stoed inside nexuiz/data/data*.pk3 as sound/announcer/male/welcome.ogg

I don't know how to open .pk3's.

Its just a zip file trying to hide (rename to .zip and open, change it back to .pk3 when done)

Anyway, instead of making you jump through hoops, I'll just tell you... it's pronounced as if it were "Nexius". Apparently it was supposed to be "Nexiuz" but someone had a minor dyslectic spasm when they declared the name. I was calling it "Nexwiz" before I finally heard the announcer.

I think the member's name was Nexiuz, but when he registered somewhere he typoed it as Nexuiz.

That's the "official unofficial" story, a typoed nickname for domain registration, but not even Vermeulen can affirm this iirc, so this is an "urban legend", but no other explanation exists.
