  • I'm putting up a CTF server running the Spidflisk Mod (Spidflisk CTF Mr.Carlyle's Mod). There are a few changes I've made that people might like. The big one is I've added more friction so players aren't sliding around everywhere. Default was 3 I put it to 4...Nexuiz is 5, so it'll still feel a bit off.

This server will not be 24/7 but I'm going to run it tonight and tomorrow for sure. Please hop on and see if you all like it. Then please give me responses here or on irc.quakenet.org #nexuiz.

I'm doing this to see if people like it. If they do, then maybe those who run CTF servers or someone starting a new one may be interested in using the Spidflisk mod.

My own personal changes from the default Spidflisk settings are as follows:

    spidflisk_game_CTF_NoDepthTestFlags 0
    spidflisk_game_ctf_DisableCaptureRecordReports 0
    spidflisk_item_VerticalTiltWeapons 35
    spidflisk_player_Handicap_Allow 0
    spidflisk_weapon_Laser_AllowAltFire 0
    spidflisk_weapon_Uzi_AltFirePushAmount 1

    g_projectiles_newton_style 1
    sv_friction 4

If anyone would like to see a certain setting turned on or off just ask and I'd be happy to try it for you. Have Fun and Enjoy!

  • Do I need to download/install something to get the mod to work, or can I just connect to the server?

Yes, its the friction. The friction makes you slide a little. I however, increased the friction so people wouldn't be sliding everywhere like the standard Spidflisk. If you're ping is high, though, you might find it hard to play.

  • I'll be sure to play it when I get home. If it's a hit, I might put up a spidflisk mod server :)

  • The friction seemed ok to me, but friction on 3 never really bothered me either.

I liked the low friction on most maps . The low friction made it hard to stay on space maps.

I would imagine it would be harder to defend on Spidflisk with the alt laser and weaker weapons.

I thought Doku was putting up a spidflisk ctf server . I don't even see his Fusion server running. :(

Friction of 3 never bothered me either, but most don't like it so I thought I'd try out 4.

Yeah, lower friction will be a little more difficult for space maps, but honestly once you're used to Spidflisk then its not that hard...at least for me anyway.

Actually the Spidflisk laser secondary is disabled on my server because its just too easy to abuse, both in defense and offense. No one should have the secondary laser on when running a Spidflisk CTF server.

I haven't seen Dokujisan since the NA tourney, so I'm not sure what's going on there. He was suppose to set one up, but never did.

  • When I first started playing Nexuiz, the only servers I played were spidflisk. Hence, I grew accustomed to the secondary laser, and never knew it was part of the mod until a couple of months ago.

I like the secondary fire :) But yes, it's quite strong... though slow. Why is it perceived as soo much of an advantage? Surely anyone who can use it is susceptible to their opponent using it...

The secondary laser has been tested on a couple maps, and frankly its just too powerful. There are maps that allow for flag captures in just two laser jumps, bypassing the jumppads...this isn't acceptable. Again, this is just too easy to abuse.

  • Instead of Succer_sucks we need a hockey_sux map for spidflisk ctf!

  • Ah yes. I think when I was playing spidflisk, I had yet to really use laser jumps much. That hadn't occurred to me. Carry on :-D

I tried your server tonight, and I remember how much I enjoyed certain aspects of spidflisk.

    Things I like:

    Faster gameplay
    More fluid movement
Player scorecard at end of game
    Bowing player animation
Items 'ghosted' after having been picked up
    Trails when jumping
    Squatting fire rate
    Higher acceleration

    Thinks I don't:

    Newtonian physics
    Switching between spidflisk and regular
    Less friction
Keep blowing myself up with splashdamage because I end up shooting the wall, floor, etc -- my aim seems real off. This may be related to the friction or newtonian physics.

I think it would ease players into the changes better if we kept the friction at the normal 5 and newtonian physics turned off. It's just too much to switch between for most players who aren't already familiar.

Your mileage may vary, and batteries not included :-D
