  • Hi all,

First I would like to give a big thumbs up to everyone who made this game. It is a load of fun... I would take my hat off to you, If I was wearing one.

I was wondering though, Is it possible to "turn off" certain weapons, like you could in the original UT?

We play Nexuiz on our office lan, but would like to restrict available weapons in certain games (ie, allow players to use only machine guns and grenade launchers).

If it is, is it possible to do through the "Create" menu in the game itself? As I havent yet had time how to work out the dedicated server stuff :)

  • hi. this is configurable. iirc it is actually configurable in the in-game menu when you create new games. I dont have the game in front of men, but when you create a game you have several pages of possible settings.

  • I have looked through these, the only one that looked appropriate was the "Weapons" button under "Management".

However when I click it Nothing happens...

Is this the right option? Am I being dense (probably yes)?

    PS thanks for the reply.

  • i dont know of a specific setting to disable certain weapons, but you can adjust the weapon configurations on the "weapon settings" tab, right before "management" (then you can save and load the configuration on the "menagement" tab. and you can control the weapons to start with in the "game settings".
the available weapons depend on the map.

you can disable items (in game settings) and enable the guns you want as starting weapons. you will also have to set a starting value for the ammo.

  • For your example of playing a map using only the machinegun and mortar, using the menu you'd be able to disable the laser and shotgun as starting weapons, and enable one or both of the machinegun and mortar as the new starting weapons.
(Those settings are found in Create > Game Settings)

Also, you'd have to replace the weapons which spawn in the map with the weapons you wanted. This is not configurable through the menu.

To do this globally, for all maps, you would want to make a custom config file, "mg_mortar.cfg" for example, and do "exec mg_mortar.cfg" to load those settings before starting your server.

To set custom weapon settings for each map uniquely, you would want to edit the .mapcfg files for each map you wanted to customise.

  • ai wrote:Though, how did they do minstagib? Cause when you place out a electro on a map it becomes ammo for the nex, and other weapons don't show. So I suppose you'd have to invent some kind of a mod, or?

    This is somewhat incorrect.

minstagib lets you start with a nex and all RLs and NeXes are exchanged with ammo cells. Minstagib is a mutator, and making it requires some coding, its not just config

  • If you really want to have certain weapons only available, but without removing them from the game, you can turn up the required ammo to 9999 for each shot, which is about 9000 more (OVER 9000!!!) than the maximum possible ammo.

  • Hi all, thanks for the replies. I will try the ammo to 9999 idea in a little bit.

What would i have to do (coding wise) to make a .cfg file? Are there any tutorials around I could look at?

  • There is no coding involved in making a .cfg file, simply create a .txt document, input your commands in this format: set <boolean> "value", on individual rows, put them in ~/Nexuiz/data, then execute them on the command line using: exec <fillename+extension>; renaming the .txt to a .cfg is optional.
