  • Says he(she) is a 'licensed reseller per the GPL'... ohkay... maybe the Nexuiz folks should just sell the swag on ebay, and offer a FREE CD OF THE GAME with every shirt purchase, or something like that, hmm.... check out the other auctions... all sales of Open Source stuff that anybody could go find and download and figure out themselves.

For your enjoyment, we have also included on this CD an awesome map pack that will add tons to your gaming experience
This is a community map pack compiled by Strahlemann. It includes 35 maps, and a campaign mode for the user to fight through.
The map pack includes Quake3 communtiy maps, Nexuiz community maps, and some new maps from Nexuiz developers.
Credit is given for all of the authors. To install it just unzip the file into your main Nexuiz directory.

Don't some of those maps contain a clause about not being allowed to be included on a CD?

    Shipping costs:
    US $7.99

Yes and most of them include a "no commercial use" clause...

And he also assumes ownership of lots of screenshots from our media page:

does that include the maps shipped with nexuiz as standard cause iirc that would violate the GPL.

dont say that too loud, because then debian has to take out theyr nexuiz package out of the reps (and so will ubuntu).. since gpl allows commercial distribution, so it would be incopatible to gpl, incompatible to debian.. no more prepacked download over apt-get....

i doubt the debian package includes the q3 map pack. And if it did, i doubt the q3 mappers would give a damn :)

btw, this guy at least provides a cd, i remember someone on ebay who charged 4.99$ for a warsow download

  • There's a report button at the bottom of the screen, click it, and choose all the relevant options. This guy needs to stop, he was selling Ubuntu too. Why would anyone fall for this anyway?

I was going to sell nexuiz on a CD, but it would have been in a jewel case with a booklet and everything. Nothing like what this guy's doing.

Let's all ask him to prove it. Show us the license.

Actually, he has every right to sell the game. Whether or not it's very ethical, well that's another story :)

Someone buy this, and then complain that it is NOT 100% photoshop compatible to get your money back :P

GIMP is good (well, its GUI is horrible, but otherwise it is good), but it can't be hard to make a PSD file in Photoshop that GIMP won't understand.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • It's not that he's selling it that bothers me. He could sell open source stuff all he wants. But saying that images are (his) copyright, and that the software cost THAT's what's bothering me. I mean, if someone wanted to have open source on CD or whatever and was lazy enough to burn it themselves, please go ahead and buy it.

Also, being a licensed reseller of GPL software, is there really such a thing? Cause he's saying his a licensed reseller of "this software" (meaning Nexuiz), and I just wonder if anyone on Alientrap has given him a license to redistribute it (and get paid).
And far as "Fully licensed distributor" of open source software goes, one doesn't really need a license to redistribute it (if I've understood the GPL license right), you just do.

I don't like his style. But selling open source software is ok as long as don't sell the software, only the CD's, time etc.

Yup, that's what I though (or more likely knew), so saying it in a way that he's "special" makes me wanna choke him.

leileilol wrote:Nexuiz is originally $40? as if ! now that's a damned lie everyone misses here

I read that too, but the post was so badly made it made me wonder if he actually meant Quake 4 or Nexuiz. In my mind he was going for Quake 4 (thus making me think "Why the hell would you even bring that up? What has that to do with Nexuiz?") so I didn't mention anything about that here.
But yet again, he could have meant Nexuiz or Quake 4, the post is too bad to be understood clearly. But I am a literal person and literally it is Quake 4 he meant.

Bottom line, I bet he is some kind of a psychologist or shrink, playing with the words and the minds of people. But I don't fall for that stuff, I'm immune, I see right through him and what he tries to do.
